Title: Trail camera photo contest
Post by: BobR on January 28, 2009, 11:10:39 PM
I think we need to have a photo contest now. I will donate a wired camera, a W80 or W90 for a prize. Maybe BTKR will help set this up. when it will start, end and how the pictures will be judged. I think it should be for all trailcams, not just homebrews.

That would be pretty cool, although I think "Bones" already has enough trail cameras :chuckle: Just kidding, I just think he has some mighty impressive TC photos.

Trail Camera photo contests are lots of fun.  The biggest contest on the internet is going to start in about a month or so. This contest is at Jesse's Hunting Page (JHO Outdoors). That contest is lots of fun. There are about 25 categories, and nice prizes are awarded each year to the winner of each category. This year will be the sixth year for that contest. Last year, I won first place in two categories, best whitetail deer pic, and best bird pic. The year before, I won first place for the best sequence of three pictures. I won that with three pictures of two yearling bears standing up and pushing each other around in front of the camera. The pictures from the past two contests are still "pinned" at the top of Jesse's trail camera forum. If you get a chance you should look at those pictures and contests. Maybe it will give you some ideas about a contest here, One thing is for sure, these contests draw lots of interest.

A contest would be fun. I know there are others like Septemberfan, that read the posts here and built cameras. Septemberfan's first post was to show us a pic from his new homebrew. I don't want to be a part of the contest rule making, picture judging, and I will not enter my pics in the contest. I will post my pictures in other threads. I think I wore all the letters and numbers off of my keyboard, over the past few weeks. I am ready for a break, just sit back and enjoy everyone's pictures. I will come up with a camera for the contest, but someone needs to take charge and set this up.

I'd be in.

Why not just set it up like the photo of the month contest.  Set a specific timeframe to post, like say 1-28 Feb,  then open it up to public voting.  I could type up the original post with rules and such.

Here are a few of my first pics.  After I had the settings correct, it took 93 pics overnight.

I'd be interested to know if any have had problems with frost on the glass or the glass fogging up. I had a bunch of pics the other night and half were clear as a bell and the later half of the night the pics were blurred with either frost or fog.

Other than that, it works great!

I have gone sccuba diving and used some stuff called "no fog goop" if the problem persists maybe that will work.

They make some stuff for safety glasses that used to be called "Cat Crap".  Now they call it something else.  You should be able to by it at pretty much any good welding supply or safety supplier.  I was going to try some RainX anti-fog on mine when I remember to get some.  I have trouble sometimes in the mornings when the sun first comes up.  The cam is facing SW into the field.  It's the little things that you learn as you go while testing.  It's been getting better now though.

Dave,  I use Rainx. You can get a bottle at Wal-Mart for about two bucks in the automotive section.
