Title: Baker Lake Sockeye Derby
Post by: acnewman55 on March 20, 2016, 09:41:57 PM
Just reserved some camping at Baker Lake during the sockeye derby this year.

Almost everything was already booked up - but got a site for Saturday and Sunday nights at Swift Creek campground.

Can anyone give me any pointers for logistics that weekend?

I've never camped at Baker Lake and never fished it - is the derby going to be a giant clusterf*ck?  Are there enough boat ramps on the lake to serve the influx that weekend or should I expect to be getting in line to launch at 3:00 am?

Can you leave your boat on the beach - or do you have to pull it out each night?

Thanks for the help!

What's the news on this derby? Haven't heard about a sockeye derby up there.  :dunno:

If at all possible try to launch the day before. I have been there on a non derby week day and it was still pretty packed. If the water temp is warm troll deeper then what everyone else is unless they are actually catching fish.
