Had some luck on the potholes this weekend the 19th and 20th. Tons of boats in regular spots not getting anything and we got skunked on friday as well. Saturday we hit up shallower warmer water and got into 19 walleye! One measured 29 inches on the dot and around 8 pounds another was 24 inches and just over 5 lbs. Females have not yet dropped their eggs. Brought home a bunch of 16-21 inch males as well. Great trip and we lucked out big time from what we heard elsewhere nobody was getting em.

Nice fish! I was in the normal spots not catching fish. We landed one all day, in shallow water.
-
How shallow is shallow?
-
Sweet! walleye is on the list
-
8-15 feet
-
I thought you meant 3-5 feet by shallow.
-
i guess ive never caught walleye in anything under 20-30 feet lol so for me it was shallow for sure.
-
we caught them in 4-6 feet of water last year on Moses Lake.
-
i know they definetly feed shallow. isnt moses like only 35 feet deep in the deepest waters?

It hits 40' in some places, 42' being the deepest, I believe. Lots of water in the 20s.

A simple rule is "find the feed, find the fish". Most bait isn't deep unless there's oxygen or high temperature issues.
CMoney knows the shallow area I'm referring to as he was out there last Spring.

I'm jralous!

2 more days again Corey!!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :bash:

Is anyone going out this weekend? Plan was to hit Chelan but the kokanee bite has been a bit slow. Thinking of changing gears.
-
yeah i am. walleye bite has been hit or miss too. will be kicking on any time now. people had more success last weekend.
-
All the homeless people are starting to fish the mouth of crab creek where it runs into Moses lake so I'm assuming the bite is about to get good. I'll be out tomorrow and Saturday.
-
Any luck?

potholes was weird. heard people limited i only got 3 friday evening. but most people were only catching 13 14 15 inch wallys because the spawn was happening or had happened. big fish were more rare this weekend. i did end up limiting with smaller fish this weekend on Saturday though and caught a 27.5 lb carp and one 10 inch crappie.
-
Dang too bad we didn't go last weekend, we were there for the weekend the weekend before and I can't believe it we actually got skunked. No freaking walleye the whole time. We tried all our regular spots, weren't marking much. Tried trolling the humps, tried back in crab creek, tried out in deeper humps jigging, tried back in the coulée, tried the shallow weeds beyond the bridge, perch point, disappointing but oh well it happens.
-
really? sorry to hear that man... timing and depth was HUGE two weeks ago.... we got 19 fish two weeks ago but they all came from 15 feet of water and only morning and evening. it was weird. now the water temps have warmed up enough that pretty much all the at least eater fish are biting but the big fish were absent for some reason for most people.
-
but also i did hear a ton of people got skunked as well. saw a TON of boats in the regular lind coulee spots but no fish to be caught.
-
Yup no more fish. Might as well throw in the towel all :)

hahaha yep... scrap the potholes. its garbage :tung:

Haha when u plan on going back?! I was gonna go sunday but after fishing all day sat i was burnt out. Even gave my fish away the last two times ive gone lol. Buddy i took has only been w me once this year tho so he was thankful.
-
im actually going back this coming weekend. already had this trip planned 3 months ago. im hoping the bite will pick up a bit or ill be able to locate bigger fish. we shall see. might just fish soda.
-
I'm unfortunately one of those who have been skunked every time out this year 😑. It will happen, I know it will. Fished Moses lake off Stratford bridge for 4 hours today and didn't get a bite, the Russian guy next to me caught his limit on about 30 minutes :dunno: :dunno:
-
Yeah I wasn't too worried about not catching any fish, it was bound to happen one of these years of fishing that lake haha. We'll be back over at potholes third week of this month and I'm sure we'll catch plenty then.
-
Anyone been up there this past weekend? How's it looking? Will be there Friday-Sunday this upcoming weekend.
-
Heading there this weekend what's a good set up to troll for Walleye? and how deep? I know a good old worm on a hook from the bank will get a few Bass but have never caught a Walleye and would like to try. Thanks
-
I just finished fishing the Potholes Open. Two day team event. Took 45lbs and change to win it. Almost a 4 lb average. Big fish was 7 and change on a spinner bait. Flipping jig into the brush was the ticket and way back in the dunes.
-
very nice man! that was bass right? i heard the walleye are done spawning now and the bite should pick up really soon.
-
Yes, Bass. Only had one incidental walleye on. The face of the dam and the rock pile were putting out nice smallies. Cranking and dragging. Looks like weather this weekend is going to be alittle iffy with a cold snap coming in.
-
Took my daughter and my uncle out this weekend for a day. Got a sunburn and some fish. Cant get any better
