Anyone know what the proposed change to elk area 6054 is gonna look like?
-
Does anyone else feel like muzzle loaders get the short end of the stick when it comes to big bull tags?
It would be great to see some of those permits go to the muzzle loaders instead of the rifle guys.
-
The muzzy tags are the best hunt minus the rifle rut tags ......

No not at all. The new muzzleloaders are ridiculous. They have to much range and are to reliable. Get rid of inlines and sabots then give them back their old seasons(month long either sex). Instead they want in essence a open sighted single shot modern firearm and their own special seasons. I know this is not a popular view but there are already advantages to the seasons they do get.

Nope. Kind of waiting for the harvest reports and multi draw before deciding if I'm going back to muzzy. Last year the state opened a bunch of new early units. This year the early muzzy (west) opens on Oct 1. The Quality Bull tag I've been trying to get forever used to be a week long starting Oct 1. Now...they opened that GMU for early muzz with this year's dates being Oct 1 and open for a week. Basically made a formerly highly desirable quality bull permit into an OTC tag.

best thing that could happen :yeah: :twocents:

I don't think the seasons or permit numbers are too bad for muzzy. It is the lowest number method so therefore should get the least permits.
They do get a very good elk season.
I also think the equipment rules for muzzy are good how they are :twocents:
Meant to put 2 cents smiley not bash. Fat fingers....
-
I was meaning the any sex thing. :yeah: When your not allowed to use a scope you are limited enough with the range you can hunt and the inlines are the same regardless whether they are more reliable or not.Heck you can hunt deer with a bow at 100 yards still not any sex. :bash:

Muzzy has its challenges guys, not everyone can shoot 180 yards with one. The elements, primers, powder and bullet placement is crucial. My wife shot one at 10 feet and we never found it. I'm not saying anything about muzzy seasons, just that it's not anything like a rifle.

Why the significant changes in the Colockum? I don't hunt there, but always read about the big studs who live there.

good question !!! I wonder if it has anything to do with the number of bulls the tribes kill?? Either way, that's a heck of a jump.
-
the game department base the permits on success rates so they are all close archery muzzle loader and rifle
-
Looks like the draw odds will get better...in some units :yike:
-
Looks like 335/Teanaway bull tags got the ax pretty hard. Wolves?

There are no big studs left in the colockum.....they all migrated to the blues.
:peep:

That's just crazy talk :bdid: :bdid:

Are they gonna make changes like this to the deer hunts?? Just wondering, anyone know?

I really don't understand that. I was literally surrounded by Bulls bugling last September. There was probably 5 Bulls within 5 hundred yards of each other

Teanaways bull tags got axed to add more to the quality tags and better seasons.
Im assuming that the Teanaway EF permit is going from 3 to 12 and not 3, 1, 2

Looks to me like the Teanaway is only 2 for the quality tags and gmu's 328/329 got the real boost. I guess we'll find out soon when the regs come out. I have applied for the late bull ML tag in 335 but not for many years now. It's really not my arena, just an observation.
On second look, it appears there were 31 tags removed from the bull category between all groups and only 7 added to the quality category for all user groups. Better opportunity maybe, but certainly less. :twocents:

That's what I was thinking as well

Eat lead!!
I wonder if they will charge 13 for a "quality wolf tag application" or just the standard 7. Mmmmm.
-
Two of my hunting partners seen three wolves at the same time in rimrock about 6 years ago.
-
No disrespect but I don't know you and I don't your partners. I'd like to see proof. We see pictures of wolves from other areas but I've not seen proof of wolves in the rimrock
-
They were just under Darland Mountain running south. I called *censored* but neither are the kind of guys that play jokes and they were standing next to each other and both were adamant they were wolves. One was black. I have heard reports of wovles around Dome peak also but I have spent hundreds of days around there and never seen one. Just cause they may not live there doesn't mean they don't pass through.
-
Your absolutely right, Im sure with populations nit far to the north they could for sure pass through. And I'm sure if they're not living there they some day will. I'd just like to see proof. With trail cameras on every other tree you'd think somebody would have a picture of ine

ML have the best season now. They get more prime rut days than archers. If I didn't love archery so much I would switch. Can't wait to see the harvest report.

What units are they getting prime rut days in?

Unless I missed it no late archery teanaway bull tags now.

No late Teanaway for any weapon categories. A few quality permits added but not equal numbers.
-
Not a whole lot of archery bull choices for the East side.
