Title: 49 Degrees N help
Post by: asl20bball on April 17, 2016, 08:00:16 AM
I drew the spring bear tag for this unit. Haven't hunted the unit in 15 years. I will have my 6 year old son with me so I am hoping for areas where glassing units (south facing slopes) is readily available. Does anyone have any suggestions on general areas/road systems that would meet this criteria. Do you think the north end of the unit or south end is better for spring bear?   I will be scouring over google maps in the next few weeks.  :-)  Any help is appreciated!  Thanks guys. I'll post picts if successful.

My foster boy shot a tan colored bear on the south facing part of calispel peak 2 years ago with a spring permit. You may have to wait awhile for the snow to melt this year.

Just got home from there turkey hunting and saw 0 bear sign which is rare.  Still a bit early.  There have been times while hunting in May I have seen up to 5 bears in a weekend.

The best advice I got when I drew a neighboring unit a few years ago was to look for ankle high or higher grass. This might be open ridges, fields, clearcuts or most often times on sides of gravel roads.
