Kind of wanted to put in for a second deer hunt this year and noticed there is one for this unit. I know public access areas are pretty limited in this unit but the area between Mcintosh Lake and Offut lake looks like there might atleast be some gated forest roads. Has anyone ever checked this area out for deer? Might make a trip out there this weekend but just curious if anyone has any other info on it. Thanks in advance!

I have hunted it off and on through the years because it is close to home. Plenty of deer. Make a good map and just keep walking. It has really grown up, so get in the timber and creep around slowly on a windy day. Walk in from the Vantine S curve up to the Chain hill side. Mac side has homes now, the elk are probably moved on. At one time, you could go up the hill from Offut lake road, beside Wolf haven. It would put you over the sunny ponds. Horse groups use the roads. Call for coyotes while you are up there. Lots of sign, and did not hear many grouse last May.

Thanks, just would like to get a good opportunity at harvesting a doe in that area with that second deer permit. Heard from a few people that right around that area is pretty good. Just follow some roads in off hwy 99 and hike.

just out of Tenino off 143rd is the West Rocky Prairie wildlife area...about 2600 acres. it goes from there to Tilley road where the gravel pit is. I live about 1/4 mile from there and see deer all the time

Be sure to walk in, don't get tempted to ride in quads or other motorized vehicles despite all the trails leading in there.

Is there any special firearm restrictions in this area?
