Did anyone attempt to look at the elk harvest in the Margaret unit for 2015 in the new harvest report that was just recently posted? All it has is the data for "multiple weapons" and it shows that 9 hunters took 7 elk, all 6 point bulls.
So what about the general archery, muzzleloader, and modern firearm seasons in Margaret last year? Did not one hunter take advantage of those new seasons? Or am I just imagining that Margaret went from a permit only unit to a general season unit last year?

Yeah, the harvest reports this year have me doubting their accuracy. In the past I just assumed there was a handful of guys that were trying to mess with the stats, but this year it seems like some kind of computer error. :dunno:

I was in the Margret last year and it was a zoo. There were way more elk taken than 7, 6 point bulls.

Like Jimmy said, this just makes me wonder if any of the data in the report is correct. There have been issues with harvest reports in past years. I remember one year when the numbers were so far off it was obviously incorrect. It was fixed within a couple of weeks, IIRC. Hopefully this one will be corrected soon as well. I'll send the WDFW an email about it today.

Seems like a computer error to me. Otherwise the categories would be listed with "0's" rather than not listed at all. Unless no one reported having hunter in Margaret.

It's always the computers fault! :chuckle:

Pretty sure the hunter reporting is severely lacking in honesty

I think the reports are messed up a bit. Just take a look at the goat permits. There were hunts that average over 30 days for a kill. Pretty hard to believe😳

My buddy and I each killed a bull in the Margaret during 2015 the muzzleloader season and report them accurately.

Did you guys both get 6 points or bigger with multiseason tags?

True perhaps, but there's no way only 7 of the hunters in the unit reported, they all had multiseason tags, and they were all successful. Some data is clearly missing.

9 hunters all had multi tags and 7 got bulls 6 pt or bigger.

OK...missed that...so there is still a whole bunch of data missing.

Nope muzzy tags

Harvest reports play very little into the harvest stats we see online. Those making the reports know that those reports are the most unreliable data they could use in estimating actual harvest. Roadside checks, warden reports, driving grid reports, helicopter flights, and educated guesses all carry more weight than our harvest reports.

I think they pool the data... so 3 hunters report hunting for 10 days, 1 reports a kill.

They got it fixed...
