So I heard on the radio yesterday that someone caught a 29lb brown trout out of Rock Lake by my parent's house in Whitman county. Anyone else hear this or see the fish? I wanna see a pic!
-
Some real Yar potential in this thread!
-
Hope they left the fan on and had a Dr. nearby
-
One of our members messaged me about this....interested!! Congrats to the angler!

I heard the same thing on the radio. Havent seen proof

That lake holds great fish.....totally believable. I would love to see a picture.
-
I don't know, something smells fishy about this story... :dunno:

I see what you did there !
Seriously a 29 lb brown trout would be a beast!
-
22lbs is the previous record so its possible
-
I heard about it sometime ago, but I have yet to see a picture or a confirmed report.
-
If the story pans out. I'd guess the launch will be wall to wall with hopefuls.
-
BE CAREFUL, IT IS A DANGEROUS LAKE. IF THE WIND IS BLOWING GET OFF. THE DEPTH CAN GO FROM 2-100 FEET IN A BLINK. MIKE W

This is some very wise information. That's actually from one side of the boat to the other. You can see rocks on one side and the other could be really deep.

So true which is why I'm hesitant to post a picture.
-
if i see that picture of the goofy vanilla ice looking guy holding that triploid one more time...
-
I have not heard about it until now. But if there is 1 lake in this state a record would come out of it is Rock.
-
Probably weighed 22 last year and filled up on steel head this spring. ;)

That maybe the only good thing that comes from the transplant....
-
People have been catching a lot of steelhead. They are maybe 12-14 inches still. I have caught several browns over the years that were 20" or bigger with some pushing 28" but they were long and slender, spawned out with decay and weighed maybe 8-9lbs. I've seen many big trout come out of the lake from other folks as well so I was hoping someone could show me a pic of this beast. :dunno:

On another forum, a guy said he called the Regional office, and was told it was only 19lbs

With no one talking I will wait to see the photos what ever the size it should make the paper soon. Unless the person doesn't care about 15 minutes of fame and ran it through the Grill.

Tagging hoping for a pic

Nice trout, hard to say but I would think closer to that 19 pound mark from the pic.
-
Looks more like a lake trout to me ... never seen a brown that looks like that .

:yeah: :twocents:
-
Does not look like any brown trout I've seen.
-
Sure looks like a giant brown to me but not at all 29lbs. Even long arming it doesn't look like an upper 20's fish. Certainly a toad though! Congrats to the angler!
-
It's a German brown. Not a common brown trout
-
Nice catch!! Must be an Electrician. Uses Black tape for first-aid.
-
I heard about that fish in early March while fishing Rock Lake with a buddy. Spent a lot of time on that lake and heard a lot of fish stories. :chuckle:
I know the guy holding the fish.
-
Superb Brown trout for sure...as said, it doesn't look 29lbs in that pic. Thats a monster anywhere though!!
-
Combed his Facebook page, no mention of weight.
-

And the difference between the two is???
-
I believe, if I remember correctly, a Common Brown has halos around some of the spots and will have spots on the adipose fin, German Browns just has black and brown spots without any halos and no spots on the adipose. I think????? lol

german brown is spotted and a common brown isn't. Used to catch common Browns in Reno. They look like a rainbow with pale colors and no spots
-
It's a German brown. The guy lives in Colfax who caught it. I didn't realize who it was until mossy posted the pic of him. I'll get an actual weight for ya but it seems to be more like a 19lb fish at most. Still a once in a lifetime German brown if ya ask me!
-
Maybe the pic just doesn't show it very well but that does not look like a German Brown or a Brown, at all, to me.
-
Got the word it was actually 17.2lbs. Browns look a lot different coming from very cold deep water than they do a river or during spawning seasons. From the picture, if thats where he caught the fish, the water is 300+ deep. Notice the color differences in a lake vs. river brown.
-
Definitely a brown trout, either German or otherwise. If they aren't in their spawning colors, they can be very silvery with subdued spotting. That's a very common coloration for them.
