Title: Ever try a Tent Cot?
Post by: ghosthunter on April 28, 2016, 11:01:20 AM
Anyone ever try anything like this.

Seems like it would be ok for short scouting trips or for kids while camping.

They show up in the Bargain Cave all the time really cheap and my father in law has one we gave him (we paid full price).  He likes it pretty well.

I have used them. They are great for 1 night stays or car camping. Just make sure you have a good pad to sleep on as there is a cross bar that will wreck your back!

I have the Cabela's two person one.  We are a family of five and it allowed extra space for two of us to get out of the camper.  It sets up quick and will stay pretty dang warm if you keep it closed up.  Lots of condensation if you do that though.  We don't use it if we are only staying places for a night or so, but if we are in for a longer stay in one location, it has been great.  I have only used it in the summer through late August.  The double has some significant weight to it.  It folds down pretty flat, but it is still roughly 36x 60, so it takes up some room to transport.
Pads are a must.  The bar runs down the middle on the two man, so you sleep on either side of it, but you will still need a pad. :twocents:

I just got my Cabela's Club Visa bill and the included flyer has 20% additional club points on either the single or double all through May.

 :yeah:

Spent the whole west side archery season in one a few years ago.  I won't do it again.  Not sure why a tent is more feels more secure when you have a bear sniffing around just outside.  People in my camp now call it the twinky shack.  Wrapped in plastic with a gooey filling.  That said they are great for a few days.  I have the single.  It works.

Yeah

This would be a quick trip set up.
Sometimes I like to take three days to scout new areas and move every day.
For that it would be great I think.

I have a 10x12 wall tent which I love.
But it requires more care after use.

Also the tent cot will be great for the grand kids.

I used to sleep on an army cot in my sleeping bag wherever I was tired.  I don't know that this offers any pluses.  You certainly cannot pack it any distance.  But if a person feels more comfortable with a cloth roof... what the hell.  My father in law likes the one we bought him.  It is for sleeping right next to the vehicle.

I"ve got one... put a tarp over it to help with the condensation.... and you'll need a pad.  In cold weather you are going to want to block under you or have a mylar sheet to keep thermal.  Froze my tookus off in the Clockum cow hunt a couple of years ago sleeping just below the snow line.

In cold I will be in my wall tent.
One of these is just those shot trips in summer with the wife.
I like the top to keep the bugs out at night.

Well got my tent cot today set it up in five minutes.
Tried it out for a hour.

Got the wife in it,because she always wants to go for short camping trps but doesn't like all the set up with the big tents.

She liked it too. So I ordered another one tonight.

They are nice when it is hot out to. You can have the mesh closed but leave the main flaps open to let the night air in. This has allowed me to get good sleep on some seriously hot mid summer fishing trips. Enjoy!

Yes I get my best sleep outside in a tent of some kind.
