Title: How young to start training
Post by: kball4 on May 03, 2016, 02:33:49 PM
I have a 12 week old GSP/Poodle she is my first hunting dog.  Should I start training her now or wait until she can focus a little better?

It is never too early! Start slow and don't push it. It should be all about fun for now. Their attention span can still be pretty short at this age. I would focus on basic commands and bird exposure to get the excitement and prey drive going. Have fun and keep training sessions short. Try to end on a good note before the pup tires of the training. If you do push it too far just put the training aside for the day and forget about it. Don't let your expectations get too high in the beginning and enjoy the ride. It is going to be a fun season coming up for you!
