Title: Icicle or Johnny Creek fishing tips??
Post by: gaddy on May 16, 2016, 11:13:21 AM
Wife and i are invited to join the b-inlaw camping at lower Johnny creek campground over Memorial day. He doesn't fish and I've never been up there and wondering about the fishing, what works, or any information I can get. As well as what else to do up there.  By the regs there are trout and i see that as of May 16 there will It will be open for hatchery Chinook. Thanks.

The salmon fishing is much lower on the river than the campground.  There are a few places by the fish hatchery to fish from shore though.

Also the trout fishing can be good, mostly smaller fish but lots of them.  Opens last Saturday in June I believe though.

If fishing from shore. Eggs or sand sjrimp below a bobber.  Some bank access at the hatchery and I heard this year the river is open a little ways above the hatchery.  Check the regs. Bank access is very limited below the hatchery.

If it were me, I would contact Sam Baird at Slammon Salmon Guide service and see if he has any openings.

Lots of rainbow and brook trout on the upper portion of the icicle.  Right around the 8 mile mark there are some turnouts that you can walk down to some holes. Plenty of small ones but have caught a few 12-15" ...its selective gear to btw
