Title: Tips for catching bigger small mouth bass
Post by: MHWASH on May 16, 2016, 09:00:47 PM: Spent the weekend fishing the Snake for SM bass. Caught quite a few, but the biggest was about a pound. Most were in the 10"-12" range. The two biggest. 15"&13" were caught on a plug, all the other were caught on tube baits bounced along the bottom. Most were caught between 3-10' of water. I figured we would catch several in the 1-2# range. I am doing something wrong?

We used the same technique to catch several 2-4# on Dwarshak resivior.

Post by: MountainWalk on May 16, 2016, 09:14:00 PM: When I lived in Seattle, near the I 90 bridge , I would absolutely kill smallies this time a year. From the bridge to almost Seward park I could catch fish.
Did best near points, drop off s, and gravel, 5-15ft.
I mostly relied on six inch rainbow trout pattern Rapala, tandem blade spinnerbaits chartreuse and white big size. And rat l traps.slow roll em.

Not sure of the water temp at your location, but the spawn has been going on for some time. Post spawn blows. And the good weights are much harder to find.

If you're catching a lot of little fish, you need to move on. What pool were you fishing?
