Title: Trail Cam Security Box
Post by: ryan2202 on May 19, 2016, 07:50:00 AM: I'm sure this has been asked before, but I figured I'd throw it out there. Security boxes for trail cams...are they helpful in deterring people from bothering them. I'm looking at a couple areas to put my trail cams up, and the area I'll be taking them to is pretty far from any beaten path, so that'll help. Whats the recommended height to put a trail cam to further derail any camera from being messed with?

Post by: skeeter 20i on May 19, 2016, 08:31:06 AM: I've been using the tree mounts for my cameras and putting them up around 10' up a tree. I think they are the Moultrie brand. It works great most people don't carry steps with them to get up and get them. You might try that. Only camera's that I've had messed with or taken were at ground level.

This is my belief as well. After having one stolen last year I now put mine about 15' up by using screw in foot pegs that only go into the tree when I'm climbing up to check the cam. They should be less apt to be noticed up there and harder to steal if a thief does see them.

And if a thief still finds a way to shimmy up the tree to steal my cams now hopefully he'll fall and break his legs, starve to death, and become bear bait. You know, because I'd like to get more pics of bears. :)

Screw in foot pegs, thats a great idea - here I was imaging carrying back a ladder that'll get me higher as suggested by all. However - I do like your bear bait idea...set-up a dummy cam and a trap to make that happen - hide the tree stand across the game trail, opposite tree, then wait for the bear... :hello:

The dummy camera is a good idea, the chronic trail camera thief in the corral pass/noble knob area will get caught one of these days!! I hope I get you on camera trying to f with my stuff again!
