Now that spring bear season is coming to an end I would like to get some information from anyone who is willing to help. I am not looking for specifics but rather just some general information about the units in NE WA. I am finally going to start putting in for spring bear and I know that all of the units have good populations but I am not sure how the terrain compares to each other.
I would prefer not to road hunt that much but I understand that the network of roads my limit opportunity to venture away from roads. My main concern would be drawing a unit where elevation is limited and finding vantage points to glass open hillsides may be far and few between. I have done some simple research with Google Earth, Gmap4, etc. and I am considering 49 degrees, Sherman, Huckleberry, or Kelly Hill but would like to get some opinions if some of these units standout more than others for the country I am looking for. I understand that each of these units likely provides suitable areas to get up high and glass but a few of these units hand out a few more tags so I am worried that these areas may get a little competitive.

If you don't like competitive, avoid 49 Degrees and Huckleberry, it was very busy this spring with all the tags in those units. Sherman is by far your best choice to get away from other hunters, there's lots of roadless area and plenty of areas with closed roads to walk in and hunt. :twocents:

I had the 49 degrees tag this year. Only made it over 2 x. Saw 2 bear but couldn't close the distance. The unit is a little thicker/heavy timber. I actually did not experience much pressure from other hunters in this unit so that was good. I would say it is a decent bear hunt with opportunity to fill a tag but nothing too outstanding. It would be a great turkey/bear hunt in May though..saw plenty of turkeys (plus 2 cougars and a wolf).

Thanks. I figured 49 Degrees and Huckleberry would be competitive with almost double the tags.

:yeah: but the units are big. I hunted both units. Huckleberry I drew 3 years ago. Filled tag after hunting 2 weeks straight. Also 2 years ago. I helped a buddy in 49 deg's after I filled my Kelly Hill tag. I seen 9 bears that weekend in 105 unit. My buddy and I seen 3 in unit 117 but he missed the first bear and the other 2 never gave use a shot. I like all the units
