Vision and the Older Shooter
Old eyes and iron sights can go together, provided you take the necessary steps.
It’s a common statement on the range: “I just can’t see the sights anymore.” The problem comes with age, and you don’t have to be retired to experience it. As soon as you notice you need reading glasses, your ability to see iron sights is deteriorating.
As our eyes age, the fluid in them becomes less clear, the muscles that shape the eye to focus get a little weaker, and the iris, the aperture that adjusts for optimum vision in different lighting conditions, gets lazy. All this doesn’t have much effect on our vision under perfect conditions, but it contributes to problems relating to low light and focal distance.
Focal distance is critical when you shoot a gun with iron sights. We begin to have trouble reading the buttons on the remote as we get older, and the front sight seems to grow whiskers. This normally happens in our 40s and can wreak havoc with our ability to shoot well with iron sights.

I asked my eye doctor about vitamin supplements for eye health and he said yes they are a good idea. He said that there are different companies offering them, some good some not so good. He recommended this particular company. It is a little expensive compared o some others, but I can say that my night visions seemed to have benefited once I started taking them a couple years ago. I'm 57 and still have very close to 20/20 vision for distance and cannot say for sure that the vitamins have done anything to help in that regard. What I can say is that my eye doctor does think they are worthwhile.

I am 53, my eyes started to change noticeably at 45, but only when reading. Now I use progressive lens glasses when on the computer and to read anything inside three feet clearly. I use readers for my kindle
The irony is According to the eye chart I still have 20/20 vision. Go figure.
One area tha has improved a little because of my vision decrease is close range hand gun shooting. I have found I do a lot better when I focus on the front site because the rest is to blurry to see, lol

I am near sighted. I think.
See ok during the day but low light on either end and I loose definition.
Have had glasses for years but only use them while driving in low light.
I use as scope for modern.
But muzzy I started having problem with the front sight. I put on a Williams peep sight and it made a huge difference.
