My one big piece of advice I have is clean it ASAP after shooting! I shot a deer last year, reloaded, dressed the deer, got it to the butcher and headed home. Got wrapped up with work and family as soon as I walked in the door and didn't get to clean it right away. Even with the stainless barrel I got quite a bit of pitting inside!

OK. Now have in my procession a Knight 50 cal Bighorn. Can someone school a first time muzzy elk hunter on bullet, powder ,etc. choices? Accessories? Only using it for westside elk. What about a peep site? Thanks in advance. FYI. Been hunting westside elk for more years with a riflr for more years than I care to admit.

Were I you... I would suggest you consider a Lehigh .458x305 grain bullet, either a MMP 458x50 Orange sabot or a MMP HPH-24 sabot, they fit my Knights better since the .458 is a true 45-70 rifle bullet, with 110 grains of T7-3f since you have to use caps. I would also suggest the RWS Dynamit Nobel 1075+ cap or the CCI #11 Mag cap. Then if you get a good nipple that the cap fits tight on it will also make it water proof. The Knight nipple is to skinny and the cap can often fall off.
These bullets offer great Terminal Ballistics.

The AMCO Nipple is no longer available from Track of the Wolf but they now offer a stainless steel version that uses the same nipple stack measurements. The are very good nipples for plunger gun.

This is a ballistic sheet for the bullet but with 120 grains of T7-2f with a 110 of 3f you would be very close to this...

Peep sight is a very good addition in my mind. Williams offers a FP peep with 1/4 min clicks - they work very well...

I even change the front sight to this combination - make it seem like you are looking through a 1X scope.

Barnes 290 grain TMZ or TEZ, 777 powder, and German musket caps. Deadly combo :tup::yeah: :tup:

I just got a bighorn last year. The place I bought it set me up with RWS 1081 primers and a box of pyrodex 50/50 pellets. Shot groups of 2" at 50 yrds right out of the box! I just put a Williams peep sight on it and have just been out once but so far like the set up. Going to play around with different powders and bullets.How long was it before you cleaned it?
