Title: Green diamond land permit
Post by: AZcoueshunter78 on June 10, 2016, 09:12:53 PM
Anybody ever bought the green diamond permit for west of shelton for deer? I am looking at new units that are closer to home and this is an option.

Personalty I refuse to pay for access.  It is a good deer unit.

That's probably one of the areas with the highest density of deer of almost anywhere in western Washington, except for maybe Vail.

If you go west of Shelton on Shelton-Matlock Road, everything on the right (north) is open to the public without an access permit. I think it gets more pressure now that the other side is permitted, but still plenty of deer. Especially on week days!

I thought that a large chunk of that Green Diamond land out in that area got leased to the tribes last year.  I remember a thread about it - last fall?  Perhaps do a search of the forum for" Matlock" or "Green Diamond".  I don't hunt out there so I didn't pay a lot of attention to the thread.

I get a walk in permit for that area. This will be my third year using the permit. Use it for deer and coyote hunting. Going out there tomorrow to scout around. There are lots of road warriors out there during deer season but many ways to avoid them. I factor that road use into my tactics for locating deer out there.

But there is almost 400,000 acres there to hunt so the tribal lease seems like a small fraction of the property.

Some of the Skok tribal members that I know just buy the GD pass. One of them got a cow in there late November, didn't hear about any other elk taken by them in there.
Thinking about buying the pass myself considering how packed the other areas get 7 days a week.
