Title: Moose decoy
Post by: MLBowhunting on June 11, 2016, 08:51:43 PM: Ok well it's that time of year again. I am offering up my Montana decoy to any lucky moose hunter that wants to use her. I think this makes year 4 or 5 of passing her around. :tup:

Congrats on the tag. Rut is a non factor in Nov and you should pray for some fresh snow to cut tracks. We had a blast tracking them last year Thanksgiving week on my Selkirk tag. A decoy may or may not help. They can be curious at times and run like a track star others in my experience. Good luck to your son on his quest for a dream bull. My son and I had a blast and made some new friends along the way. :tup:

By November start looking around clear cuts that have grown back some browse. 3-6+ year old cuts on the south facing slope would be a good place to start looking for. If you can find some with a creek going through that's even better.

If you know where some moose wintering yards are, they will be pretty close by in Nov. They usually use the same areas for a couple winters.

You will find lots of help here and don't be afraid to talk with the local F&W officer or USFS guys for info. They were helpful to us.
