Elk hunting for me is something that I have to do its in my blood, hunting elk in the rut is what fuels my obsession, as most people would agree, that's why I moved to central Washington back in 1981, I also like to fish so I purchased a house with the Yakima river 100 from the back door, I figure get as close to the action as you can it will be a lot easier to be on the river or in the woods doing what make me feel good, being self employed also helps with the ability to take time off when I want to. My ability at Putting meat in the freezer every fall has been pretty good over the years, but with one exception I have only taken 1 bull elk in my 40 years of hunting, a spike bull mostly because I am a meat hunter and antlers are nice but not the goal, and I hunt the east side since that's were I live and the country that I know, I'm a shed hunter so I have antlers, a few nice ones, I drew the Quality Peaches Ridge bull tag archery last year along with 2 of my good buddies we set up a camp in the little Naches drainage all three of us 2 wall tents scouted hard think we put on 500 miles just traveling all the logging roads before the season started, we hunted hard I took 11 days off work and they both spent the entire season down there think it was 13 days, we located a drainage with good timber and no roads into it with a few bulls bugling and hiked in well before daylight and hiked out well after sun down every day, we had some very close encounters and had some incredible lows as sometimes the elk out smart the hunter, but long story short we ate our tags, this my sound weird but it was a great hunt because of the experience , we ate like kings had time to unwind and enjoy the days in the field, its the time away doing what make a person feel good, those things are what you remember, So when my brother called me and said that he drew the Quality Teanaway Muzzy Bull tag I knew what that meant, for like myself he has only taken one bull elk that was a spike, all the years we have hunted, we have always been meat hunters and a nice young tender cow is a trophy to us. I drew the Alta Quality Muzzy Buck tag that starts November 25th I drew the Alta tag about 7 years ago and know it will be a great hunt also. We will be enjoying every moment of this hunting season as a family and with good friends as that's what hunting is about, and with some luck and a little skill will be able share the adventure with the HW gang.

Jack pot ! have a blast .
-
congrats on the tags
-
You sir have a dream season ahead of you.
Enjoy every moment and keep us updated on your hunt
-
Yeah, should be a good season for us, only 3 tag holders hunting branch bulls during his hunt so he should be able to tip one over, the challenge will be for him to be able to hold out for a nice one, no predictions or anything just a branch bull would be nice, My deer hunt will be hunting on private property that I have access to, couldn't be more excited.

I spent the day with your nephews yesterday. It was good to see them! I'm so sorry about your niece. I don't have the words to make any of it better. It just sucks!
My grandson drew the August Teanaway rifle cow tag and a youth easy money antlerless deer tag and now his mom wont let him go hunting this year. It just sucks!
I'm super jacked about you and your brothers tags. After all he's been through, I hope you guys put him on a giant bull.
Take Care! Joe
-
Joe, we need to work on getting the grandson out, send me a message on the details. I know one thing we paid our dues and this year were gonna be cashing in.
-
Dang dude. You are flying high... congrats
-
Nice pull!

Should be a season of even more memories. Congratulations to you and your brother!

We spent the first few days of October hunting an area that we know has always had a few bugling bulls that time of year, only to discover that a week of hot weather and clear nights the bulls had just stopped bugling way down from the prior week, I had been in the middle of more than a few groups of bugling bulls in Archery season so we were just hoping they would stay in the area that we were in, October 1st the first day of the hunt we had a monster 7x7 with a dozen or so cows bugle 20 times at first light and just vanish, we decided to back out of the area until the next morning only to find the next day a group of other muzzeloader hunters moved into the area and busted the whole herd out, side note there were no spikes in the bunch, we heard one distant bugle so decided to let that place cool off since it was the weekend, Sunday night we scouted another area but nothing much just a few distant bugles, Monday morning we hiked into a drainage that had dark timber with over grown clear cuts that had been strip logged about 20 years ago, lots of good cover but with open areas between the thick spots, we seen a nice bull in the area a week before the hunt started so when we heard a bugle accompanied by tree racking breaking branches and the sort I put my brother out front and made a few honestly crappy attempts at bugling but good enough because he came in looking for a fight, 40 yards the first shot hit just behind the shoulder the bull didn't go very far the second shot hit him in the neck, took most of the day to pack out the meat I didn't even realize that I had this bulls sheds from last year, so excited to share the hunt with my brother he had 16 points all I can say it was worth the wait

Btw, going back to your first post, nothing wrong with spikes. Actually probably more of a trophy if you think about it. Alot harder to get then a branched bull if you ask me..
But that's a great bull there

I'm glad you put Dana on a great bull and he was able to seal the deal on a great bull!

A Buddie rough scored him tonight at 375 5/8 gross, he couldn't be happier

Congrats gentlemen! I see that team Anderson gets it done again. After all the unfortunate adversity that the Anderson family has gone through this year this is probably the best medicine an outdoors family could ever ask for. I presume your nephew was taking the picture. You, your brother and even the guy behind the camera have had a bit of a rough patch in the road of life this year. You certainly wouldn't know it by the grins on your faces though. Great job! The picture doesn't show very much cape. was it bad or did he just choose not to mount it? In my opinion that one should be on the wall for himself and for many generations of future Andersons to admire. When the pictures get put away and the horns get put out in the shop its easy to let the memories fade, but when he's on the wall looking back at you everyday you relive the hunt and the memories stay fresher in your mind.
We never fired a muzzle loader on our trip, but the turkeys and the grouse took a beating. Like you said earlier we ate good, hunted hard, played harder and laughed and giggled like junior high kids the whole week. Great times!
Keep in touch! Joe
-
Great looking bull. Cool to have those moments with family and to have the sheds is extra special.
-
We didn't save the cape unfortunately , that subject was discussed in length I did the de-boning and frankly we filled every game bag to the limit with meat spilling out the top, I did the European mount for him so for now hes happy
-
Awesome  one great hunt in the books. One more to go

Great bulls , I went back to read the first post and I must of missed something. I see two bulls did he draw with a partner?
-
The other set was a road kill we picked up after a long day hunting, I'm really liking the new rule

Spent thanksgiving with good friends in Twisp, the next day seen a few smaller 3 point bucks and decided to check out some higher elevation areas for deer, not as much snow as hoped for only a few inches, the deer were bedding early so we decided to just glass the hillsides and get ready the evening hunt. My goal was to hold out for a buck that was worthy of the quality tag, in reality its hard to pass up a fat deer when the opportunity presents itself, hence my dilemma that evening when I spotted a group of deer on the hill, it was a great experience spending the weekend with my brother and his wife, plus got to butcher hogs and do farm chores for a few days, we had a great season.

I like the big 2's.

Nice job Dave
Looking for a nice fat cow right now for you to cut up

Congrats Dave! You guys were blessed this year!

I don't see eye guard points, either. When was the three point rule suspended in the Alta? Quality hunt or poaching?

Ok,I just read the reg and you are correct about "any buck".but now I have just one more question, sir:regs state the season for quality hunt in Alta 242 is from nov.1-20 and in your story you spent Thanksgiving.with friends in Twisp and then took that buck. That would place that kill well past the season.

Maybe go back and read the first post before making assumptions: "Alta Quality Muzzy Buck tag that starts November 25th".

Maybe check the dates for muzzleloader. Or just don't bother commenting...

Nice buck Danderson.
Pcal - learn how to read and comprehend.

I love the internet wardens. Looking for ten points or what? Generally if you make a fool out of yourself once you shouldn't jump in line to do it again.
Fun hunt! Weird weather this season and lean on the deer quantity and quality. Well done.
-
Congratulations
-
Congrats on a great season!

If they were I'd think they would have better luck going after that "road kill bull" must have been a wrecked car pretty close to that thing too...

PCAL, you are coming off as a complete *censored* bag. Why would you so quickly rush to think the worst of someone...... and then do it again? People like you DO NOT help this site. Seriously, you should offer a sincere apology or go away.
Danderson....... Nicely done!

Nice work Dave.
-
Nice job man I like the way big two points look, The one I shot this year looked like a big to point at first and then I saw a 1 inch I guard, One of my favorite racks that I have
-
Dave
Nice work once again! Looks like you, your brother and your nephew had another great season. I hope things are well for you and the holidays are being good to you as well. I haven't been on here much lately but I'm sure enjoying the last dozen or so post. I laughed so hard I nearly had to change my shorts. This is some funny stuff. I like the fact that most folks on this site can probably close their eyes and repeat word for word every page of the regs. I think it's because we eat, drink, sleep and breathe all things hunting. Also, we're the first to congratulate our fellow sportsmen and women when they have success instead of belittling or berating them.
This year is coming to it's end and I hope everyone on this site had a good season and I sincerely wish everyone an even better season next year. You to pcal, but please do a little research before you reply.
