I've hunted this unit for 22 years now, tagged out general season all but 2 years. Always wanted to get in there when it's not a pumpkin patch so I'm excited to have the opportunity. Anyone up there know how the deer fared the winter after the big burn? We saw some deer but not nearly the amount in previous years, I was pretty concerned a majority of the critters just got out ran by the fire.

Banged up pretty hard with the fires and the extended general dates. Late archery and permit season thinned out the crop even more. Winter was the exclamation point. Whiteys for the most part disappeared for quite some time, but I'd expect with the grasses growing in full, that they'll rebound fine. Good year to have a whitey tag IMO with the muleys being on the decline. I struck out with quite a few points. Good luck.

Thanks for the report  It was a tough deal sitting on my spot I've sat on opening morning since I was a kid. The sun came up opening morning to my first daytime view of the burn, I glassed a few does and a small muley buck, and just walked away. Will be happy to see it green again soon, and it will be back but sure it will be a number of years.
