Title: Unique Tumor?
Post by: UrbanTrapper on June 14, 2016, 10:52:33 PM
Incidentally caught this possum in Seattle on a nuisance raccoon job.  When I first saw him I thought he must have a horrendous prolapse but when I looked I saw it was a bulging wound or tumor on his tail.  This possum was also blind in one eye and in otherwise poor condition.  Thinking a biologist might want to see this, or that I should at least report it, I called WDFW Region 4 office.  Customer Service there said a biologist wouldn't need to see it unless there were multiple cases.  So, is anyone else out there seeing animals with a condition like this?  Anyone know what this really is?

That does look like prolapse. Could be from very poor nutrition

Did this happen to be near a bus route or other form of public transportation?

Tail run over is the most likely explanation but I like Elephantiasis the best. Thanks for the answers.
