Title: refund for fishing license
Post by: ridgefire on June 17, 2016, 03:55:05 PM
With all the rivers and the sound shut down I am thinking about asking for a refund on my license. What a joke fishing is nowadays. Anybody think the sky will open this year?

I was the high bidder on a guided  chinook/steelhead trip on the sky for this season at a CCA banquet earlier this year. Tomorrow, the 18th is the day I had scheduled for the trip. It was supposed to be a father's day gift. When I spoke with the guide earlier in the week he suggested that it was very possible Saturday would be opening day on the Sky. Unfortunately that has not happened. Pretty lame turn of events. Gonna have to reschedule for a lower Columbia summer steelhead trip in July, which will be fun but it's a fishery I can do in my own boat. I don't have a sled to run shallow rivers in. I feel your pain, can't bass fish Lk. Wa/Samm, no Sound rivers at all, gotta travel hours one way just to fish, what a joke! The state should be offering refunds, we shouldn't have to go looking for one. I have zero confidence that the state will refund any money anyway.

I heard the earliest NOAA would likely be able to finish the review of the permits is early July.

I thought it was June 24th or sooner. I'm pretty sure that is what they reported on outdoor line last weekend. Has there been a set back?

maybe they will get it done then.  Just what I heard around town.  Said it would take longer because they had to analyze how the different applications will affect endangered species.   :dunno:

The 24th has been mentioned as a target date.
These cooler, cloudy days in June can be some if the best days for summer runs. Really sucks not having any local rivers open. I tend to lose interest in fishing in the middle of summer when it's hot and the rivers are low.

It would be Nice if in 2017, "Nobody purchased a Fishing License, just take a year off. This is Washington, and there is a lot of other cool stuff to do.    in the mean time, we will see if the State likes our Money, as much as they like the Tribes, Money, that bribes them.

A dollar is a dollar to the State unfortunately they don't care where it comes from. Keep in mind Washington State is beautiful and full of amazing outdoor opportunities but is run by complete idiots that would just as soon see all recreational fishing stop if they could make the money elsewhere, same for hunting, they want people to quit then they can shut it down due to "lack of interest"!

"Well due to the declining numbers in the sale of fishing and hunting licenses in Washington State the WDFW has decided to suspend all hunting and fishing and focus their financial resources on hiking trail enhancement and recreational boating"

Careful what you wish for is all I'm saying. 25 years ago you could walk from boat to boat across most lakes in this State on opening day of trout season and not get wet! The 4 years I lived on Lake Ki in Snohomish County I think the most boats I counted on an opening day was 9?! We are not a growing industry anymore.

They would never be able to pay for it without hunters and fisherman dollars.

I've called and asked for a refund this year, they said they will not be giving refunds.  She also said they have been getting a few calls about it.

Far more recreational boats than fishing boats in this State.
Far more hikers and campers than hunters.

A simple fee increase on them and our money is replaced. The only thing keeping us around is our numbers and our "voice", as numbers dwindle our voice becomes a whisper. Unfortunately I feel it's only a matter of time given the decline in participation over the last 25 years...

Fishing piers could just as easily become"Aquatic environment viewing platforms"  :twocents:
