I drew quality bull archery in lick creek i have hunted down there a few times for elk, I am somewhat familiar with the area but kind of stuck on where to find bulls. I would greatly appreciate any help.
happy scouting to all

Devils Tailbone and Hard to Get To. Good places to start
-
Should be a great hunt.
-
Congrats in pulling an awesome tag. It's a fun unit to hunt. A little more pressure due to the archery general season cow hunt. So be prepared for that aspect.
Early season scouting will get you familiar with the area pretty quickly. I've seen some dandy bulls in there last few years. Hang some cams if you can. Feel free to give me a call (pm for number). I'll be in there for at least part of the season.

tag and congrats
-
We've hunted it the past 2 years. Have seen some 330-350 class bills.
Lots of roads on top. Very little pressure once you drop into the canyons. Met a bull hunter there the first year who did not fill his tag and he hunted hard with a team. Not easy, but looked like a fun hunt.

Great Tag! Good Bull numbers! But a lot of pressure! Spend some time getting in shape, it's big country. With a few days of scouting you'll be able to sort things out pretty quickly and have an exciting hunt!

Thanks for all the information. I have been looking at a map I bought from the pomeroy ranger district as well as google maps trying to find grassy basins adjacent to dark timber. Not sure if that is something to be looking for or if I am wasting my time

That sure seems to be the popular thinking about the blue mountains doesn't it. But that's ok maybe it will bring more opportunities to the rest of us. 😬

Don't over look the Hogback/tripple Ridge area there's always elk in those areas. The game dept had a food plot by the Black Ranch and at dark the elk would pour out of Dark Canyon to hit the plot. It was fun to watch.

How many points did you have?

Almost like mine. Not quite there he has some work to do
-
Hunted there for 25 years. Bugle off a ridge and you will get answers just about anywhere.
-
Lace up your boots, tie your pack on tight and head up Asotin Creek behind Smoothing Iron to the timberline.
-
How many points did it take to draw? Track down Brian F on here see what he has to say. Best of luck, up to 7 points myself for the lick creek draw. Maybe next year.

Been hunting lick creek for probly 6-7 years now. There's some good Bulls there. Like others have said, you will have some hunting pressure, there is also Indian pressure and it's gotten worse over the years. For the most part, they don't get out of their cars and trek.
Last year was a phenomenal year for Bulls! Good luck! Here's a couple I've called in
-
Another ........

Sweet video!
-
Shoot me a pm and we can talk. Lots of bulls... 😎. Nice thing about that area is everyone wants to help. Especially if you have a bull tag. I shot a spike last year with a dandy 5X5 in tow. Lots of elk....
-
I was just scouting around in there today. Checked out Devils tailbone and cougar Creek area and hogs back. All looking good, very thick woods near the ridge tops. Bottoms are deep and hold the elk. I don't have a bull tag tho so if you wanna share the cows with me I'm totally in !!! I have been hunting in the Dayton unit for the last 4 years thinking about maybe trying lick Creek this year.
-
Lick Creek permit holders: Hope your first couple of days have been successful. Holler with a PM if you need help packing meat or get in a jam this weekend and next (no vacation so Fri-Sun is all I can muster this year).
Good luck and hope you get your hands bloody!
-
Try the back side of pink um butte looking back towards smoothing iron lot of leg work but some big bulls in there good luck
