If heard of special permit hunters getting access to previous year's special permit hunters information, so they can discuss the details of their hunt (if they are willing to do so). Does anyone know if you can gain access to this information and if so, what is the process?
My kids drew some youth special permits and I am trying to do everything within my ability to help ensure they have a successful hunt.
THANKS.

A good solution is to post a request on here for information and assistance.

:yeah:
Lots of helpful people on this forum...especially when it comes to getting kids hunting. Where, what, when???

Yep, post what permit your kid got so (1) we can all be jealous and (2) we can offer help. :chuckle:

My daughter drew the Pine Mountain Ranch Bull elk tag and my son drew Elk Area 1040 (4-O Ranch Wildlife Area) cow elk tag.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Update - Spoke with WDFW licensing agent and was informed I can submit a public information request. I was told they will like be able to provide the name and address of previous permit holder only. Then it would be up to me to reach out to them. It's worth a shot....they may offer insight especially considering it's a youth hunt.

Not 100% sure but I think both of those if they are both the ranch hunts are pretty much controlled by the landowners. You work direct with them and hunt when, where and however long they say you can hunt.
My buddy's kid had one of those tags and they told him what day to be there and drove him around for the day. Unfortunately on his day they didn't see any elk that he could shoot but he said it was a great time getting to see some new area.

My son had the 1040 youth tag last year and both of us had 4-0 cow tags the year before. What kind of info. Would you like?

I have put in a couple request over the years thru the pubic disclosure request department at Fish and Game.
Pretty simple. Say you draw a permit, and want to contact the previous years permit holders.
You simply state you would like to contact them about your hunt, and tell them the hunt number and desired year.
They in tern will send a couple of forms to fill out. Once that is done, they will send you your list.
The list will only contain their address. No phone numbers.
I have wrote letters with about a 30% success rate in getting guys to respond back to me.
This is a great way to start your research when you have drawn a permit.

Looks like the last two posts are a great start to your hunt.

I drew the 4-0 ranch tag this year for deer, I will be hunting there from September 1-14. I will have some info for you after my hunt.

All I can speak to is the Pine Mountain tag, and I can assure you that Cole and Gary will take good care of you and will hands down be the only and best resource you will need. Good people who want you to have a good hunt. Good luck and congrats on the tags

I can only speak for myself, but if someone I didn't know contacted me to ask about a previous hunt, with personal contact information gained from a public disclosure request, I'd consider it an inappropriate invasion of my privacy and would ignore him.
You're better off asking for voluntary assistance on a forum such as this. :twocents:

I'd suggest starting a new thread with a very specific title on here and ask for information and/or assistance. I will almost guarantee you that you'll have a lot better success getting information. I agree with Bob. I think you're overthinking it.
