My three year old black lab got hit by a car three weeks ago. Totally his and my fault. His left rear leg was broken @ the ankle and his ligaments were shredded. Got him in to a specialist and was able to set the leg and replace the ligaments with artificial ligaments.
He has a metal fixator around the break to hold it in place and I am supposed to clean the wires and pins that are attached to and enter the skin and bone. My problem is that this very calm and mild dog will not let me clean the wires going into his leg. I have to keep him calm for 12 weeks which is basically accomplished by drugs and keeping him on leash,
Any ideas?

Lots and lots of good bones and toys to chew on. Had a tplo in my house having to keep a high power field trial dog relaxed for last two months. His teeth are really nice looking
