Post by: Blcktaildreamer on June 30, 2016, 03:00:50 PM
Me and my wife are headed to glacier for a week. We have about 5 lakes picked out to hike to and fish. Does anyone have any cant miss places we should be checking out?

If you want something a little adventurous and off trail I highly recommend the hike to iceberg lake via shangri la. Not sure if the route would be open this early though. Amazing trip

Be prepared for a little pucker factor and follow the route described if you do it. Got a little off track and ended up in a pretty sketchy situation picking my way through a cliff face.

Fishercap lake is a good place to spot moose

I tend to stay away from the west side of glacier as it looks a lot like western Washington. And spend my time on the east side

Another epic but long hike is to start at the top of the pass and hike the high line trail to granite park. Then take a right and hike down the swift current pass into many glacier. This is an epic hike and one of my top three ever. The view down the many glacier valley is unbelieevable. Spent a half hour with my wife at a spot on the top of swift current watching two wolverines play in the snow and never saw another person

Highly recommend staying at the many glacier campsite. Try and get a site next to the river. Great place to deals with a cold one after a day of adventuring

The Dawson-pitamiken loop is on my bucket lisT

A couple of attractions on the way. Swinging Bridge on HWY 2 between Troy and Libby, Ross Creek Cedars on Bull Lake Road outside of Troy, and Hungry Horse Dam outside of Hungry Horse. Glacier is cool but not so sure if you can get into high lakes yet. If you can, Huntsberger Lake is a trophy hike. Have fun.

It's a nice little cabin. It is in town but we use it as a place to sleep. It has a full kitchen so that is really nice. Trap line cabins I think it is called.
