Title: Anyone used unusual calls with success???
Post by: atomicjoe23 on February 04, 2009, 05:29:52 PM
Just wondering if any of you guys have ever used an unusual call (at least for the area) with any success. . .it's getting late in the season and the yotes are probably feeling the pressure. . .wondering if an unusual call would bring them in???

Thinking about a javelina/pig squealer 'cause they have one at my local SW. . .

Here is how I see it. Distress is distress.
Most WA yotes have never heard a pig squeal, but they will come in. There are stories of yotes coming in to squeaking brakes. Go ahead and try something new, but if it works, don't think it is the golden ticket.

I think you just need to stick with and work on the basics. It will happen.

I just figured out that I can squeal like a pig with my Ki-Yi if I move the O-ring to the middle position and blow in the mouthpiece like a trumpet REALLY hard!!!

. . .BTKR got it before I had time to edit it. . .

Once when the ex and I were first married we went for a hike into the wilderness and decided to get amorous in a meadow.  After a while I looked up to see a coyote running directly at us. :o  I guess he thought I was hurtin' her. :IBCOOL: True story!

Come on piggy, give me a ride...Looks like we got us a sow here, instead of a boar....I bet you can squeal like a pig.

I take it youve never seen Deliverance?  Ned Beatty at his finest.  If you havent seen it, just tell everyone you havent seen it.  The only funny part is the bad part.

ATOMICJOE23:  if you use the javelina call and have success here, let me know.  I have one coming from the desert area's of Southern Cal.  I have had no success as of yet with it but you never know.

Good luck.

I've never used a diaphragm call before. . .I've heard they take a while to get used to, but the fact that they stay in your mouth and you don't have to use your hand is appealing. . .an E-call sounds the most appealing to me. . .just not the price. . .

I'm gonna try some fawn in distress right around the fawning season this spring and see what I can come up with!!!

do it on a closed reed wa  wa wa  wa wa drawn out . there is another sound that work's. but it is Billy the kid's secret it's a good one. i have called in my last to turkey's with a diaphram call yelping. it helped calling elk in the 80's cow talk so wasnt hard to learn killer sound's take's practice in air. cant leave till morning. have 6 woodpecker call's and a couple Howler's to send out. as long as i'm through California by monday morning.Rick :hello:

I've used diaphram calls for year, they work great once you get used to them. Makes for quick kiyi's when you need both hands on the rifle and they stop incoming coyotes right now for that perfect shot.

I called in a Bobcat with a coyote pup/raccoon fight call. Thats about as unusual as I've had results with.

When we are using the Foxpro, and are aways apart, I'll turn it to something different to signal to my son or whoever that it's time to pick up and move.  Once I thought I would be funny and I went to an "elephant distress", (I bought the caller used and it came already loaded on the call), and about 30 seconds later, here one comes running wide open!  My son missed, and then I missed twice more it took us by such surprise!  So they WILL come to a sound they have never heard before!

for the first time i used the "Yellow Hammer" on my johnny stewart. saw a coyote coming in within two minuetes. then he either spotted my pickup or winded us. still impressive though

I used to have a Johnny Stewart and never had luck with the Yellowhammer. Sure sounded good though.
