Dyed diesel is currently $.70 cheaper than on road diesel. I'm spending about $100/week on fuel just towing the camper around. That spells out to about $20 for more beer. Is there any concern with running the red stuff in a '13 Duramax?

Not low sulphur and
Will probably screw your emissions systems
And if you get caught the fines are stiff.

DOT and staters really frown on it.

They dip fuel from your tank. Can get you for tax evasion.

If you have a slip tank in the back of your truck then they might dip your tank. Otherwise I doubt they will check

They will just dip your tank. It's pretty common if you get pulled over in a diesel. At least where I'm from any way

We questioned our distributor regarding sulphur content of dyed diesel and were told there was no difference in the last few years and will make no difference in your emissions. Most all diesel in the US is 15ppm or less now and it is just dyed to differentiate taxed from untaxed.

I assume you all drive 55 mph. :dunno:
My fill tube is too curvy to dip, I'm not worried about getting caught with red, never heard of any pickups getting ticketed for that. I doubt Your average trooper is equipped for it.
I'm concerned about my engine, although even new diesel, equipment is required to run ultra low sulfur.

The unmarked state patrol officer that dipped my tank used a clear piece of flexible tubing. He simply feed the tubing down the fill spout until it bottomed out, then put his thumb over the end and pulled out a sample.
