Title: Blues tag reduction
Post by: nwhunter on February 04, 2009, 10:50:08 PM
One of my major dissapointments with the new proposals was the archery and muzzleloader permit cuts in the wenaha, mainly the east. I talked to the head biologist today who is mainly responcible for turning the Blues into the worldclass elk hunting area that it is today and asked him about the cuts. I have been in on several hunts in the unit the last two years and from what I have seen there was no reason to cut tags when there are only 3 to start with. He said that he recommended to leave the bow tags as they were with 3 in the east and that apparently the game commision in Olympia decided to reduce the tags themselves, maybe to make room for the rifle rut tag is my guess. TO only have 2 tags given in that huge roadless area is ridiculis. I know a lot of you bowhunters hope to draw over there someday and this cuts our chances by 33% this year. Be sure to send in your comments and maybe they will reverse it I hope. nwhunter

I agree with you, pathetic. There are lots of good bulls down there, and other units.

thats rediculous... especially with the bull cow ratio, i swear that there are more bulls than there are cows... this elk season i saw 19 different bulls and a total of 8 cows, and we are a half mile from the wenahas!

I drew the prescott muzzy tag in 07, 1 tag 2 rifle and 2 bow. I saw on any given night scouting 30-40 different bulls, these were just the areas we could get too before dark, it was insane. We only saw 3 cows the entire time I spent there. The joke around there were the bulls were gay, due to no cows at all. They could easily take 10-15 bulls a year out of this unit

didn't you guys hear? all of the bulls in the blues are either dead now or so old they,ve regressed to 5 points. I wouldn't recommend putting in here. ;)

Ya I don't want you to put in there just email the state and gripe about unneccessary tag reduction that goes against the biologists reccomendations. In a few short years Olympia will have the Blues back to the way it was before if they don't listen to there bios. nwhunter

I don't understand what the hell WDFW is doing by NOT listening to there biologists. The same thing is going on in the Entiat unit. The bio there is worried about the deer herd with the constant pressure in the unit starting in Sept and running into early Dec. He has been reporting this to Olympia for years and what do they do? Add another 5 days to the late rifle permit season. 25 days in Nov is flat ridiculous in my opinion.

Why pay for bio's if they won't listen to them. They are out there a hell of a lot more than the a-holes in Olympia!

I agree and if I remeber right the old late rifle tag actually was only 18 days long.........

Lets face it, the new proposal wasn't based on sound game management but rather as a way to increase revenues and to satisfy the squeaky wheel.

We need to continue to send letters pointing out that resource allocation was working and that we do not support any of the changes being proposed.

Ya its sad that this state will screw up two of our best trophy managed areas, Blues and Entiat, to try to please whining user groups and political power in Olympia while disregarding the biologists who know the units best. I can't believe that the state is extending the rifle permit season to the 24th and then following that up with a week of muzzleload permits too! Hope they listen to our comments and make some changes with wildlife management in mind. nwhunter
