Trying to decide which size cooler to get and thought I'd see what everyone else runs. I'm gonna use it for pretty much everything but it's main purpose is for bird hunting and fishing. When I go bird hunting it's gonna be used all weekend and the fishing trips will vary. I'm thinking the 65 might be to small so that leaves the 75,105 or 110. What sizes do you guys run and or recommend?
-
Id go big as possible.
I'd check out https://www.rticcoolers.com also
They're big coolers are on back order at the moment. But I ordered one. I got one of their 30 oz Tumblers and love it.
Check the reviews and watch some videos on em'!

I bought the RTIC 65 and it was the right choice. It is a tad bigger then the Yeti and does just what we need. I plan on buying another as money permits, but I would rather have two medium sized coolers that are easy to lift and move then one monster. Plus, with the 65, I use it for camping and other uses where my old 120 just sits in the garage until hunting season. A 120 loaded is impossible for one guy to move and difficult for two.
-
Thanks for artic link. I will put them on my list to look at.
And the two coolers is a good point. The big ones can be a pain, I didn't think of that.

Especially these heavy duty ones. My loaded 65 is a chore for one man. There is times where I wish it was bigger but the times I've had to move it on my own I'm glad it was only a 65.
-
Canyon coolers are worth looking at also. High quality.
-
RTIC may be cheaper than yeti, but they are made in CHINA, like most other crap nowadays. The yeti tundra's at least are manufactured in Iowa and Wisconsin, along with the Philippines. I would rather spend more on American made, but that's just me.
-
If using late season I'd just go with a Coleman - no need to give up half the inside storage for insulation when its only 40 outside - a Coleman will hold a block of ice for a week in fall temperatures. But yeti's are cool and I dig the thermal cups - hot coffee inside and outside isn't even warm.
-
I have the 65 yeti and love it. My cousin bought the 110 and it's a beast. He subsequently went and bought a 65, so now the 110 sits in the garage for most trips.

I bet no one knew that Igloo has been making a couple Yeti style coolers since 2013. https://www.igloocoolers.com/coolers-collection/coolers-sportsman (https://www.igloocoolers.com/coolers-collection/coolers-sportsman) Saw the 55 for $199 at Costco in Federal Way.

I had no idea. I'll look next time I'm at costco
I've tried the Colman's before but I always end up breaking them pretty fast.

I was stunned to when I walked into the store. I was taking a double take to make sure what I was seeing was right. Looks really sturdy and well built and also American made.

From the small amount of research I've done most everyone seems to like the Coleman extreme models over Igloo's comparable models.
-
We have a few Grizzly 60s and I would not want to move anything larger by myself when they are full. KEEP THEM LOCKED DOWN W A HARDENED CHAIN AND GOOD PADLOCK. Methamphetamine addicts don't have any trouble running off w/a full 150.

Here is Coleman's cooler (Esky) that's built like and comparable to Yeti, Grizzly, Rtic, etc.. They are just as heavy built.

Grizzly was the one I forgot about.i couldn't remember what it was called.
Yes chains and a heavy duty lock will have a permanent spot in my truck when ibget the cooler. Shame people canynleave other people's stuff alone...

Check out the Pescaro line of coolers at Englund Marine. Look identical to Yeti at a fraction of the cost. I purchased a 110L for $250 awhile back and absolutely love it!!!! Plus Englund Marine has a great warranty. They have 38L, 65L, and 85L sizes as well.

Its nice to have that choice. :twocents:

Check out these guys. They are made by a white water kayak company. This is what Randy Newberg uses.

 Yep found that out too.

I just watched one of the videos on the Orion website. Those things look really sweet, I might have to look into them a little bit more

Have two Yettis....a 65 and a Roadie. Great coolers.

The above link has some great information. Something that is essential to know, a Yeti 45 does not have 45 quarts of capacity. The actual capacity is much less. Seems Yeti is the worst at loss of capacity over what the size is listed as. Make sure to look at the actual inside dimensions and compare those as opposed to advertised size.
I will agree with what others have said, it may be best to buy two smaller coolers than one larger one. A cooler works best when it is full. If you only half fill it all the time, much of the ice is just keeping air cool.
I have a Yeti 155 and a Yeti 45. I use the 45 way more often. I have the 155 for 7-10 day raft trips and for a refrigerator during hunting camp. I do like the rope handles as they can be adjusted to what length I need them to be. Also, the wire trays that fit in the top of the cooler is nice keeping some things out of the bottom (cheese and fruits).

Look into Orion coolers they are made in the USA. Spending though. But super good quality.

The solid handles of my Grizzlys are better for locking them up.

Yep, made in China. I always try to buy only products built in the USA, and wouldn't have bought an RTIC had I done a little more research. That being said, this is the best cooler I've ever used, by far. We just got back from an Idaho hunt, and I actually took a full bag of ice out of the cooler and put it in our freezer when we got home. I didn't know what else to do with it, as I've NEVER came home with 8 day old ice in my cooler! It actually ruined some produce we had in it, as it froze inside the cooler. After the first day, we figured out that we had to take stuff out in the morning before we left, and put in another cooler so it would be thawed out for dinner.
-
Their coolers are too expensive for my wallet, but I'm definitey going to buy some stock when it becomes available and settle down.
-
I have a Rtic arriving shortly. I like to buy US produced products when I can, but decided to save quite a bit of money by going Rtic. If money wasnt an issue Id probably go with an Orion. Tons of great options out there ... pick one and defend it as the best thing ever made till death!

I love how we complain about our economy then are happy to save a $100 buying a Made in China item rather then support one of the many USA manufacturers of coolers. Then when those get shipped over seas we will complain and boycott that company. Stop supporting CHINA

Good reading at the end on Made in USA for YETI and CANYON coolers.
-
Tagging. My wife and I have been Looking at the Yeti's.
-
You can buy an American made cooler from all of these companies
Grizzly
Pelican
Orca
Bison
Esky
Engel
Yeti
Coleman
Igloo.
Some of these companies may also have some production overseas but some it is all here on US soil. So if Yeti makes some coolers overseas and some here and you choose to buy from a company that is all overseas then you just tell Yeti that there is no reason to continue making coolers here. Please support American workers.

The Yeti brothers split. The brother took the yeti know how and is supposedly selling stuff for half of yeti. It says in the add. Half the price as yeti. The yeti brother is now sueing him. I'm not in the cooler market so don't know all the facts, I think he is using the brand artic or something like that. It's Arctic but spelled differently. I'm sure you googlers can sort it out.

I get that, but the difference is 50% in cost with no difference in quality. I would like to see a US made cooler sold for a competitive price. It doesn't have to match the price exactly, but having their product double the price isn't a viable option for many of us.
Further, they sell their made overseas version for the same cost as the made in the US version, so many of their customers are paying double to support an Asian country.

I have a Yeti 65 and its been a great cooler. Only thing is when its full of meat and ice its a heavy bugger. I wouldnt buy a bigger size. I use a reliable kill bag for elk and deer quarters.

I think YETI has a few lawsuits going against their competitors but I've never read where Roy and Ryan Seiders, the two brothers who started YETI, had split or started new companies.

I'm currently working on a review of Yeti, Orion, Canyon Coolers, Meadowcraft, and Esky. I can tell you that I am really liking the Orion and the Canyon Cooler. I'll post my final thoughts here when I get the review finished.
-
The Coleman Extremes are good coolers and keep food cold a long time. Unless you're planning on throwing your cooler around, save the $300 and spend it on a new rod or some ammo.
-
I used a Yeti 65 in Idaho last week for the first time. I loaded it with a weeks worth of pre-cooked meals that I had vac packed and frozen. I threw a couple of icepacks in for good measure. I opened the cooler once a day to pull that nights meal out to thaw. On day 7 as the cooler was almost empty, the remaining meal was still partly frozen. I don't think I would use them for everyday cooler stuff, not worth the money. But for specific uses like keeping a weeks worth of meals frozen without continually buying blocks of ice, they're great. I am interested to see the side by side by side comparison that you're doing CoryTDF, that will be helpful.
I have been happy with my Coleman Extreme. Will probably get another little bigger one.

I have a couple Grizzley 65 coolers and they are pretty much bomb proof. I also have other less tough coolers that have damage to them was TOTALLY preventable. The damage done to them I deserved, being stupid should be painful and I was stupid and naive enough to loan them.
I have owned them for well over a decade and they have been in six western States and Canada on family hunting and fishing trips and were pretty much in the condition they were when new, so I did not recognize the likelihood that both the 30 and 160 gt. coolers would have latches and hinges broken if I loaned them. Boy was I stupid and naive to think that.
-
There are quite a few side by side comparison test out there like this.
(RTIC 65 vs YETI 65)
-
I got my fiancee a pink 45.

I love it when a person lumps a entire group into just one characterization.

Please check out Cordova Coolers. http://www.cordovacoolers.com/
Made in the U.S.A
Brand new to the market and way better than all other coolers mentioned. Company was started by Captain Scott Campbell Jr. from Deadliest Catch on Discovery channel and has teamed up with Steve West to produce a fantastic product!
This review is pretty spot on except for the price comment, Cordova will actually be $10 bucks cheaper than Yeti.
