"PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Governor Kate Brown announced a new gun safety agenda on Friday morning.

Brown held an news conference for ‘Oregonians United to End Gun Violence’ at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum alongside Sen. Ron Wyden and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill, faith leaders, gun safety advocates, and other elected officials.

“As your governor, I call on us as Oregonians and Americans to end gun violence now,” she said.

She spoke about gun violence in Oregon and across the county, and said she is working to create new gun control laws and legislation.

As a part of the process, Brown said she has enacted an executive order to strengthen existing Oregon law giving Oregon State Police and local authorities more tools to track and analyze gun transactions.

The executive order establishes a new work group to review and assess firearms-related domestic violence offenses. It also directs the Oregon Health Authority to report annually on gun violence and its effect on public health.

Brown called on Congress to do more to control gun violence. “Every day in the United States, 22 people die from homicidal gun violence,” Governor Brown said. “I urge Congress to ban assault weapons and strengthen anti-terrorist legislation by passing the common sense ‘No Fly, No Buy’ ban,” she said.

Bonamici spoke and reiterated Brown’s call for Congress to do more.

A moment of silence was held for the victims of the attack in Nice, France on Thursday night." {end}

I didn't hear one point about gang violence and felons being roughly 19 of those 22 deaths every day nationally. Politicians who use these statistics so selectively do so to manipulate the ignorance of the sheep. It's disgusting. In addition, even if we banned MSRs, the figure would be exactly the same. Most gun deaths are the result of murderers using handguns.

I sick of pen stroke law makers. What the difference between an executive order and a royal decree? We did fight for independence over having no voice.

Good lord the anti-gun crowd might as well be replaced with robots. They all just repeat the same ideas without even looking at what types of guns are used in crimes and by whom.

Politically incorrect facts about homicide in Oregon
