Is it necessary to take the Washington Bowhunting Safety and Bowhunter Education Course in order to hunt with a bow in WA? How many of you have taken it? I notice most out of state applications ask for verification of or previous copies of bow tags years past? Is it worth while?
Montana:
Attention Bow hunters: To purchase a Bow & Arrow license all bow hunters must:
* provide a copy of a National Bow hunter Education Foundation(NBEF) certificate OR provide any prior year bow
hunting/archery stamp, tag , permit or license from any state or province.
ID:
To buy an archery permit, all bowhunters must show
proof they have completed an approved bowhunter
education course or show evidence of having been
licensed for an archery-only hunt in Idaho or another
state, or complete an affidavit to that effect.

Lots of states allow you to sign an affidavit that says you have held an archery tag in another state........Others actually require the NBEF card.
All in all I'd say its worth doing if you plan on hunting out of state/ country and plan on using a bow. One of the hunts that Im doing this year requires it and there are no exceptions for previously held licences.
And to answer your question: No you don't need the card to bow hunt in Washington.

Do you need it in AK ? For goat ?

Depends where.

Looks like you can do the class online through the WA game dept. And then you just have to schedule a field day. Doesn't look that bad.

Correct. I'm a certified instructor. Many states will be requiring this NBEF certification in the future. It makes good sense to take care of this training BEFORE you dump a deposit on an AK or other out of state hunt. I can get a list of all states that require it. Or you can browse the site :

I took it a few years ago up at blessed/aneoakleafs home.. It was a great class and I thoroughly enjoyed it bunch of fellow bowhunters in the class. I took it just in case WA eventually required in also to hunt out of state someday... If Annie teaches it at her home prepare to crap you pants at all the mounts.. Ive been bowhunting for 16 years fun class

Saw her name on the web site...I'll have to shoot her a PM and see when she is having another one.

I had to take one when i hunted caribou in alaska. It was pretty simple. You take a written then you do just like a 3d shoot with 8 targets i think could of been less and you werent allow to miss two targets

Would that be the unit 39 late late hunt in Idaho

I took the course back in 1987 at NW Archery and will take it again as soon as my kids are old enough to take it with me, I believe it is not only a better course than the "hunter safety" course that WA makes you take but it SHOULD be mandatory prior to purchasing an archery tag.
