Title: Bucks getting Fall coats and hard Antlers
Post by: buckcanyonlodge on August 09, 2016, 04:40:50 PM: Although they still have velvet on them , their antlers are hard and they are getting their fall coats. I have actually grabbed the velvet antlers of a smaller 3x2 buck and they are HARD under the velvet. Does have not started the coat change yet. Some of the fawns are losing a few of their spots.

Here is a photo from 8/20/11 of a buck in similar coat condition of what you just posted.

They certainly look like ticks but those things on the hide are actually burrs from the Hounds Tongue plant. Lots of that stuff up here . Some people call the "Beggar Ticks". During hunting season all my hunters get covered in them. I find them in the rug , shower , carpet , truck , and just about everywhere. One of the smaller bucks lets me take them off his velvet antlers..

8/25/14 full velvet. 8/27 hard horned and bloody.
