Title: Fire in the Nile?
Post by: Fireant11 on August 14, 2016, 09:34:01 AM
I went out yesterday to do some driving around the North part of the Nile.  When I turned onto the 1706 Rd off of Hwy 410 there was a small sign saying something about "fire".  When we crossed the bridge, there was a forest service vehicle and road block at the turn to go up the hill (where it Y's and you have the choice to turn left up the hill or go straight to Camp Roganunda).  The kid in the truck said the area is closed because there's a fire "up there" (waving his hands).  When we asked "where", he said he didn't know.  We couldn't see or smell any smoke.  All he could tell us was it started about 10 days ago and there were people up there fighting it.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Along the lines for help, I remember there was a website that showed all the current fires and gave their status.   I used it a couple of years ago when there was that fire in the Rimrock GMU.  Would anyone have a link to this?  Thanks!

You will need to play around with the layers some but I've been using this site, not sure if it is the most active and up to date but since it is USGS I would think it should be pretty close?

I believe your talking about this one. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,199154.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,199154.0.html) restrictions might be lifted this week.

Fire started July 31st near  halfway flats dispered site. Just about in monitoring status. Few smokes remaining up on the cliffs.

1706 and 1709 probably will be open this week. Still a sign that says "road closed, fire crews only" at the top, but people have been going around as there is no road guard up there.

Expect boulder cave, halfway flats, and the 1709333 road to be closed for a lot longer.

I was told by FS yesterday that they are almost done with the clean up, should be opened up soon.

Funny.  I was told by a guy who I think we woke up in his pickup at the bottom of the 1709 that there was no plan to end the closure any time soon.  I doubt he was a very high on the informational totem pole.

Probably did wake him up. Boring job sitting in a truck with nothing to do all day, especially when there isn't any cell service.

No doubt.  He was personable, though.  Not buying my story about needing to get up the 1709 to take a jug of fish down to Sandstone Lake.  Well, it was true be he wasn't letting me by.  It never occurred to me that getting to the 1709 off the 1600 Rd wouldn't be open given the location of the fire down by the river and the fact that it's all but out. Of course, I could have checked the OWNFS site and found out-like I did after I got home.  Oh well, they'll get stocked another day.
