Found a pretty good blacktail ambush spot on NFS land, a back-up plan in case the tree farm closed, which it did....but now it's open. Anyway, I left this spot alone for more than two weeks then finally got a green light from the Frau to start my four-month deer season. After five hours of tree-stand character building, I bailed but grabbed my camera before I left. All morning I heard squirrels dropping green cones but another noise above me sounded like rolling rocks. I was pretty sure I had company but I wasn't sure of its identity. I think I figured out why the deer vanished. I'm considering buying another tag, although he's almost cute enough to take home and cuddle.

You can always wreck his. Not all bear kills have to be record-book trophies.

What? No bear tag?
Those deer will be back tomorrow.

This is very true. I had a spike and a doe come down the same trail an hour before I missed a bear this year. They keep a safe distance, but not enough to scare them out of the entire area.

I'll be back in there Sunday and Monday (after work) with deer and bear tags. Hopefully something delicious will invite itself to dinner.

Hope you don't end up being the delicious dinner for some bear. :chuckle: Good luck!

last year i got a pic of a deer and bear in the same pic. my cam was set up in a little plum grove about 15 yards from my porch. they are often in there at the same time. every now and then a deer will snort, honk, grunt, stomp and generally make a fuss if they walk in and get surprised. LOL!

Buddy shot a bear last month and I could almost see the bear and deer at the same time in the scope! Your good lol have seen bear and deer in the same cuts several times

With favorable winds, Justyhunter and I attempted to call in the bear last evening, but 20 minutes into the set the wind shifted. Oh well, we gave it a shot and had fun getting drenched. For whatever reason, deer are leaving this spot alone currently. Maybe they were in there cooling off on hot days in August? This is big timber on the edge of a narrow strip of reprod with an open area on the other side of the reprod. Plenty of rubs in the feed area so I'm not giving up on it just yet.

That spot is where my bucks went in early July. I haven't seen 'em since.
