Post by: blmathis12 on September 17, 2016, 12:41:40 PM
when shooting the Barnes muzzy bullets do you wanna shoot lighter grain bullet like in their rifle bullets or just shoot normal weight? Example shoot their 250 vs 300gr in like a sst

In a Barnes the 250 would be good. In any other muzzleloader bullet I don't like to go less than 300 grains, especially if I'm hunting elk.

My family and myself have used the 250's and 290's and had great luck with both. I would shoot both in your gun and see what it likes and shoot whatever groups the best for ya.

I shoot barnes 250gr aswell. I was shooting the mz but ran out. So now I grabbed a box of xpb 454 (.451) casual bullets. They're identical except for a ring mid way down the bullet. Shoot great and designed to expand at a little slower speed from my understanding. Dropped my powder charge from 110gr to 100gr. Tightened my groups slightly at 100yds as a result.
Alot cheaper than mz's. And just buy some crush rib sabots....which I had to do anyway with the mz bullets as they loaded extremely stiff in my barrel with the stock sabots.
