yep this cooler weather always gets my juices flowing.

My three year old keeps asking me, "Daddy, when are you going to kill another buck?" and he looks all disappointed that I am not out hunting. :) I have a hunting trip scheduled with my dad, if nothing comes of it, I plan on taking him "hunting" with me. Should be a blast!

Hunting bear this weekend and next weekend, then deer and bear the 15th-16th. I LOVE TO HUNT and do every chance I get. Good luck everyone!
-
I filled my tag during archery season, but my wife is excited. She wants me to load up some reduced loads for her 7mm-08 so she can tag one in the back yard if the opportunity presents.
We're bought our new house adjacent to Capitol Forest.

Been waiting since last year. Can't wait to use the new gear. Went scouting on Monday and glassed up a few good bucks. Hoping my gf will get her first mule deer buck this coming season and maybe I'll tag out three years in a row on opening day.
-
Seems odd that they couldn't start modern deer on the 15th. Only 1 weekend during the season :dunno:
-
Am I missing something? Mod does start on the 15th :dunno:
-
Yes, your right.... I just read the corrections pamphlet.
-
Some might live in or have Oregon licenses? Oregon's season started OCT 1.

Deer, elk, cougar, and if i go to idaho wolf will be on the menu too. Havent checked any of my cameras in several months, gonna check a few before the opener.

-
I am so ready for deer season to get here, always my favorite time of the year. Crisp mornings, warm afternoons and MULE DEER :IBCOOL:
-
I'm already packing camping supplies.
-
Cant wait for the 15th, headed to north central for muleys
-
With the rain just coming in before dark tonight, I was chomping at the bit to get out there. Instead, I'm home watching kids.
:(
-
I have 3 people in as of tonite and 1 for sure hunting turkeys. We have had frost in the cold spots the tamarack are turning. Oh and I saw elk finally on the neighboring farm. Gawd I love my life right now and I am not even hunting this year.
-
Just moved to east Lewis county. Got elk everywhere but haven't seen much deer sign. Oh well still be a good excuse to get out and cover some ground.

I think the Change of dates was only for Over65, Disabled and Youth.
The general season date for all GMU's is Oct 15th, close dates are different across the GMU's.

this weather is driving me crazy. Past few days have been what I like for deer and the forecast is showing another ten days of the same. Already snowing down to 5500 too. Why can't it start already!
-
So excited for this season. Taking my buddy who just retired from the Army to hopefully tag his first buck. I got drawn for a Quality November tag for Modern so I'm stoked for that!!!

Have fun guys, I'm tagged out for deer and elk in this state, I'll be in Idaho for the rifle opener  good luck everyone

Ten more days until we head for deer camp.

Any way, one of my older brothers is hunting during firearm season this year, I'm hoping he gets a buck... sorta...

Is it too much to ask for an hour long sun break around noon while I am glassing a south facing clear cut? Then it can rain like heck again.

I like the forecast. I don't like the meat not being able to dry out on the outside though.
Better kill em' clean, it sounds like there isn't going to be a lot of blood left to track em' out after five minutes. I was thinking of hunting with my bow this weekend, but will probably do more slug gun hunting this weekend. Ideally I will fill my antlerless tag Saturday morning this weekend and then may just hang in a blind w/my bow and if I get a perfect 20 yard shot at a good buck I will take it.
If you are new to slug gun hunting keep your ammo in a military ammo can on the west side or at least sealed in zip lock bags and rotate out what you have in your magazine tube and pockets after each day if you can. It takes about three days to dry out after soaking up moisture on these type of days and from what I read in this book that can make a huge difference in velocity while the powder is damp. It will dry out though and will be just fine after being in a warm house for a few days.
I haven't run nonindependent tests, but have no reason to doubt the author's credibility.

What I've been seeing is that there are two storms on the way. The first is late Thursday, decent wind with a lot of rain. Friday scattered showers and cloudy. Then on Saturday the bigger storm hits, not as much rain; but high winds that last all day. Sunday, still some showers around, but sun breaking in and out throughout the day. Seems like good blackie weather.

Has anyone found rattling for blacktails to be a successful strategy on opening weekend?

Looks like snow for me!
