Title: Looking for info on Eagle area Yukon River moose/caribou
Post by: Skillet on September 25, 2016, 01:52:37 PM
A buddy's family has a cabin on the Yukon river near Eagle, and I've been invited to hunt out of it next year. Looking to chat with people who have hunted moose and caribou in that area in the recent past.
Thanks -

I hunted over there a few years ago,  Most of the locals have killed off the resident bulls by the time you get a chance,  that being said the moose are always on the move so you could catch one anywhere in there.  Its a crap shoot to where the caribou will be at that time but if you hike from American ridge north into the 40 mile heard area you could get lucky with in probably 10 miles from the road if there are some around.  keep your eye out for the grizz if the caribou are around because they won't be to far behind you!

Thanks for the heads-up on the area moose and 'bou info, makes sense.  Not looking to be another killing/mauling statistic - AK's had a pretty rough summer for that this year.

Ripper, you know you'd be on the short list of folks of I could invite my own posse along.  Probably ought to wait a few years before I show up with half sdozen tour buses and say "Hey buddy - meet HuntWa!"
