I was going to hit the south end of Capital Forest for black tail, but heard from a friend that it gets hunted out hard for hunting. I've seen game up there in the past. I;d hate to waste my time to shoot a spike at end of the season. I haven't hunted west side since I was a kid, so any advice on this side is much appreciated. Was trying to avoid those 3 or 4 hour drives, but everything within an hour from seems to get pounded.

I am in the same place as you. I don't wanna drive a ton but unfortunately most places within an hour or so of us get pounded pretty good. Hell, even places that are 2 or more hours away get pounded as well.
On the plus side, I think a good 60-70% of the folks you'll run into out there won't go more than 100 yards from their trucks so there's that. If you're willing to get out and burn some boot leather I can imagine you'd do a little better than the average person.

Going to rain like heck on the opener. 90 percent won't get out of their vehicle

Good points. I actually just got myself some new rain wear after my soul crushing day last year lol. Plus I made pack adjustments so I can go far in the rain. I love hunting in rain. Great cover
