alright guys who's all up in twisp? ill be up there Wednesday and i'm just curious how the deer numbers are looking as well as how bad of a pumpkin patch it is, good luck everybody
-
Pretty much what was predicted. People at about a all time high. Deer numbers way way lower than the last few years. Only saw 4 dead deer around beaver creek. 2 were does. Not good
-
well thats not good news. still raining over there?
-
Worst deer numbers I have seen in my lifetime. If there are any left, weather might bring some in and the rut is starting early like everything else.
-
Not a single deer hanging mid day yesterday on the entire Entire East Chewuch Road from top to bottom. Lots and lots of camps too.
-
I will headed over tomarrow Mountain Muley, We gonna do a pitcher of Alpine??? :brew:
-
I never seen fewer deer and more hunters...... An ugly year.
-
Twisp river road area was a zoo and I'm not even talking about Thompson ridge!
-
Tough going in the area. At one point I counted 10 guys glassing a spike in one draw. Sketchy situation.
-
I was in Bear and Beaver Creek. I can't remember more hunters in one place ever in my fifty years. 10-30 vehicles at every gate. These units need to be draw only IMO.
-
Really sad to hear...going to have an impact on future quality permits I'm sure. Explains why I've seen less guys blacktail hunting.

There needs to be a special permit for the bio up here. It'd go unfilled though, because you'd never see him. What a disgrace to us all. :twocents:

I stopped by the free deer skinning place just outside Twisp about 2:00 PM on Sunday to see how many they had done. At that point they had skinned over 50 deer!

This has been said many times in this forum. But with an irresponsible wildlife Biologist in the area giving poor information to the WDFW the once thriving herd's demise is a given. It's truly a shame that this is allowed to happen. Keep giving out those doe permits and allocating more late hunt permits at the expense of wildlife!!
-
My buddy tagged out in Twisp... said he saw 5 legal bucks in 4 days... :dunno:
-
Please no permit only. Would hate to not be able to hunt the area our family has camped and hunted every year since before I was born. Hunting is more than killing a big buck. People numbers will fluctuate, as well as deer numbers. Last 2 years were epic. People numbers go up. Deer numbers go down. Then people find different places to go. People numbers go down and deer numbers go up.
-
The fires last year have people thinking that Twisp bucks are the new tripod bucks. I drove through elbow coulee on my way home Sunday and there was no less than 30 rigs road hunting it. Only saw one truck actually parked with nobody in it. Haha
-
You are right Skidy. That's the cycle. Unfortunately with added predator action and the continued lack of management, the rebound is going to be a lot slower.
Congrats to your friend Chad. You're talking to a guy that used to see 30 to 50 legal bucks in a day though. Lol. And....the legal bucks weren't two points trying to grow an eye guard on either. 😉

Bone,
That is true plus throw in weather that you don't have control in on top of the burnt winter range. I am guessing it will be slim for the next several years. And a real bad winter away for being real bad. Get rid of all doe permits for mule deer will go along ways.
-
I'm going to throw in a factor that I believe a lot of folks have overlooked. It's called the internet and it's killed more than one good spot. You get a hunter that kills something big and wants to brag about it and all of a sudden there's 2 to 3 times the pressure. I love seeing pictures of trophy animals but I hate it when along with the picture is almost gps coordinates of where to hunt especially if it's anywhere near where I hunt.

I agree. Information used to be exchanged on the bar stool, or at the gas pump. Now its instantly on the internet. Next year Republic will be swamped. LOL

You called it a few years ago
Hey maybe we can start a sticky to help everyone fill a twisp doe tag
-
Man not one mention of Wolves.
So reading through the threads lazy road hunters are up and whole deer in camps are lowest ever and people who know where mule deer still probably know where they are and are still not talking!! Haha
Could it just be a normal year with last year being such a great year and hunter numbers up as a result it would seem bleak to the new people who hopefully will go somewhere else.

Next year? Heck, I'm leading a convoy over there this weekend! :chuckle:

I hunted between Twisp and Winthrop Sunday - Tuesday saw between 5 and 30 animals a day only one spike. I was down low near the river.

Just got back home- hunted up between Winthrop and concunelly . Saw plenty of deer , but no big bucks. We filled both of our tags and went in atleast 5 miles away from rds everyday. Didn't hear of or see much meat hanging- never seen so many road hunters before - when back at camp it was like a freeway and they were complaining about not seeing deer lmao!!
-
I went out last weekend to an area near twisp and didn't get to shoot anything. It was my first ever hunting trip so just being in the woods and getting used to the scenery and different strategies was still plenty fun. Still, I was surprised to see that we didn't one animal....not a doe, buck, or anything. Well, we did see a ton of grouse and 3 for on private land as we came in....but other than that nothing.
It has me thinking, is it normal to go on a trip and not even see a deer? Forget what's legal and what's not. I'm talking about just seeing a animal. The whole area seemed dead

they must have heard about that huge buck that was shot right next to the road, on the second curve of the steep switchback.
