Title: rough season so far
Post by: heronblu on October 19, 2016, 07:32:26 PM
I just feel like griping a little. I'm on day four of my season. I've seen a total of two deer (a doe and her fawn), and it's rained and blown hard every time I've been out. I love hunting, wouldn't rather be doing anything else in the world but I'm getting my butt handed to me so far. Gonna try and stay positive, and my admiration for these animals only grows as I hunt them hard and come away empty handed. I just got back from a particularly difficult day of bushwacking through hellish terrain following a fresh trail. I followed it until dark and then turned around to battle the Devils club and steep slippery ground all the way home. Going out again in the morning.Looks like rain. Good luck everyone.

It'll get real good around here in a week.  The season improves every passing day.  Stick with it, I've seen several small bucks the last couple days.

Sounds exactly like my season so far, except no devils club.  Just the joy of having a pack of wolves howling right on top of me in my honey hole yesterday morning.  Came off the mountain today to go home and get my clothes and packs and boots dried out.  Being soaked to the bone for a few days straight can be a real bummer.  I left my camp set up, heading back friday morning.  Hoping the rain fog and wolves are gone, and the deer come around.

Don't feel bad . I shot a monster buck at my moms apple orchard And my broad head didn't open . Nailed the deer at 20 yards didn't find it . Crushe my bow with my tractor and will never shoot now again . 12 gauge from here on out . Haven't hunted since Monday . Still pissed .

I got 20 days backpacked in, 8 day hunts, 38 night hunts this year with the trigger pulled once, and nothing on the ground.  Just keep grinding ...

Sometimes I think we need to make a cumulative case for hunting.  Focus on the good things that every hunter gets.

Exercise
Fresh air
scenery
stories
mental relaxation

I wish you the best of luck!

If you have a good chunk of time off for hunting season, there's nothing wrong with taking days off. Trout and coho fishing are usually good this time of year, and there's plenty of leaves to clean up. And with all the rain, sometimes it's nice to sleep in and stay inside by the fire.
Hunting gets better as the end of the month approaches anyway.
If I was limited to just my usual weekends, then yeah, I'd hunt every day I could. But I take most of modern season off work and I have a multi season tag this year.
I spent today fishing and running my leaf blower. Gonna sleep in tomorrow.

Im off all the way through late rifle  :IBCOOL:  so i am not too worried about coming home for a couple days to dry out and wait for the weather to pass.
