What do you guys think of these guns? I have a Remington 721 30.06 from the 50's that I love that is needing new bluing and refinishing. Instead of paying to do that I was thinking of retiring the 721 and buying a new 700 CDL. Anybody have this rifle or the BDL? How do you like them?

I've got an older BDL that I upgraded the stock on and did a trigger adjustment to and its a great gun! Even stock it was a great gun I just made it better.

I'd upgrade to a 700 just because so much is out there for them all mine get a timmy trigger and good bases . the 721 is a good firearm , I owned on that had been chambered in 270wby it shot well. but really not worth throwing $$$$ into. If your looking for a good shooting hunting gun for under a grand look at the savages and the tikkas . both have nice triggers and the tikka goes down close to 2lbs . bullmag76 has a 6.5 creedmoore in the classifieds that should is a good deal.

I have the 700 SPS DM in 30-06 (Synthetic Stock Detachable Magazine), and I love it. The weight and balance are great for me, and the detachable magazine is a huge plus when I want to load/unload without either dropping all of the shells through the bottom of the internal mag in a BDL or having to cycle them like with the CDL. The trigger is fully adjustable through an external set screw, and I have mine set at about 4 lbs. The one thing I don't like is how thin the trigger is compared to the timney I have in my 700 BDL .308. I would reccomend this rifle time and time again.

I've got a 700BDL in 280Rem, had it for 30+ years. Put a Timney trigger on it a couple of years ago and just replaced the stock with a Boyds laminated one. The rifle shoots better then ever.

i think 30-06 is one of the few calibers you can still get in a BDL these days. i've always liked the look of those guns(mine's a 1965 .264 winchester)

Keep your 721, buy a 700 if you want but do NOT give up that fine old rifle.

I really like the 700 CDL and have two, one in 280 rem. and the other in 30-06, they shoot well and handle fast.

Nothing wrong with the CDL's, but I've messed up enough pretty wood stocks hunting. I'd be tempted to buy a SPS and put the savings into a H.S. Precision (or other high quality synthetic) stock.
I do prefer the look of wood though.
