Title: Windshield Wipers
Post by: brush hunter on October 23, 2016, 09:07:46 AM: Need new wipers and would like to see what everybody else is using. I have used several different and am not real impressed with them. thanks in advance for the responds.

On that vehicle any wiper squeaked and squawked so loudly that it drove us crazy, especially in light western WA normal rain. Only a heavy rain would dampen the wiper noise. I tried new Goodyears from Costco and worked my way up through an embarrassing list of higher cost wipers over a six month period. Finally got some higher end silicone wipers that are silent and work. Wonderful!

So, it depends on the vehicle and I suspect the shape and contour of the windshield glass. I don't know the brand but the silent wipers now on the Elantra have the letters PIAA on the back of the blade frame.

:yeah: I did some research and learned that the silicone style were the best for "most" windshields. A lot depends on the quality of the glass and the age of the vehicle wiper arms. Silicone's are hard to find because they last so long, so not a lot of repeat business. :twocents:

I buy the Napa brand ones for the work truck which is a 2015 f350 and they work great, last 6 months or so. Same with my 85 f250 but they last a year. Every set I've tried on the dodge chatter or squeak, or are great at first then do as mentioned.

On a side note, I sure miss wing windows and rain gutters, I can drive my 72 or 85 fords in the rain with the windows down and not have water drip inside, or with the wing windows open in the summer for air. Sure miss that on the new stuff.

I totally agree on this one. Denso or NWB especially if you have a Japanese rig, these already come factory and can take a factory wiper insert instead of the oem blade. We often see cars come in that have their oem blades removed for cheap crap when they could've got a pair of inserts for less than $20 from a dealer.

Never thought about the lack of a spring pushing them down against the glass. They work fine on smaller windshields, but on fullsize windshields, they leave a spot in the lower corner of the windshield that goes untouched.
Drives me bonkers.

Homie Deport had wipers on sale for $3 a piece. Cheap ones. Tried a set and they're ok. Dunno how long they'll last so didn't stock up.
O Reilly's was like $20 a pop for mid grade for a couple work trucks last week, but I just got some rain x ones on sale at Wallyworld for $10.

Only thing that seems to work for more that six months/ touch durring the entire pass is is the Rain-X Latitudes. I generally replace wipers every fall.

The Motorcraft wiper blades I've used before always were excellent and lasted the longest of anything I've tried.

I put some PIAA Si Tech Silicone blades on our vehicles last fall and after one year of service they've been very good and equal to the Motorcraft blades but only time will tell if their longevity is as good.

If they can last through my wife's abuse and torture they must be good because that woman can ruin a set of blades faster than anyone I've ever seen. She thinks windshield wipers are ice scrapers and in the summer when her windshield gets covered with splattered bugs she doesn't believe in washing her windows when she's filling up with gas, nahhh, that's what the wipers and wiper fluid is for, according to her.:bash:

Post by: Zardoz on October 26, 2016, 03:34:32 PM: Just as a reminder from my research. Always wipe down new wiper blades at the install to clear off any manufacturing residue with an alcohol pad. Also wash your windshield BY HAND every six months to get the deep grime off. :twocents: I get well over a year on my blades.

Post by: JDHasty on October 26, 2016, 03:50:11 PM: I clean my blades w/windshield solvent once per week and get a year out of a set. I use Bosch and my wife calls me hyper aware when it comes to insisting on a clear windshield.

I've found that grime is the cause of most "failure" issues
