I was on the 2090 road and ran into a rig parked at a clear cut. They signaled me to stop, and asked me " is that a deer or an elk?" I looked and could not believe what I saw. It was a fallow deer, with the spots and palmated horns. It's a deer... could we have shot it? Definitely not a animal that belongs there. I have a very bad picture, but the people who got the good picture said they would text me the photos they had... don't have them yet, but I promise you, I know what I saw.... Again, shoot or no????
-
I believe its legal. But dont quote me lol

The regs are specific to blacktail, mule deer and whitetail seasons. Not just deer season. I'm not sure what the regs are but I definitely would not shoot it just because it's a deer.
-
unclassified/exotic wildlife, I believe you are weapons free on that thing.
-
:yeah:
-
You could shoot it but don't need to put your tag on it.

Kind of what I thought..... I'm thinking shoot!!!! Maybe someone else will see it and then we'll have something to talk about...
-
Should have killed it, exotic deer brought the lice here, that caused the hair loss problems.
-
You might want to make sure it's not someone's pet. :chuckle:
-
Tag for pics
-
Should probably call the fish and game people, no?
-
Used to be a bunch of them running around out by Weyerhauser Elementary school in Eatonville. That was like 20 years ago, maybe they made there way to Vail
-
There was a fallow buck on Bean road in Rainier a few days ago. My daughter has a pic of it. I was up the 2090 this afternoon. Wish I would have seen it, it would be hanging in my barn right now. My daughter wanted to shoot it when she saw it. She is asleep now but I will get a pic of it from her in the morning.
-
That would be awesome to see. I have always wanted to hunt one.
-
Anyone remember when about a half dozen of Buster Smith's bison got loose and were running free between Bucoda and the Steam Plant? :chuckle:
-
This is a pic that my daughter took by the Silver Springs Ranch the other day. Does it look like the one in Vail?

I'd have dropped it and thrown it in the rig.
-
Crazy, pretty cool that there are some of those running around. i would love to shoot one some day!
-
Shoot shoot shoot. No regs for fallow deer I'm killing it.

There use to be a small heard running around behind the dump on meridian where lipoma fir golf course is, they have been killed off over time, completely legal to kill them anytime of year

I'll be there this weekend and late buck, good info to have I'll drop it if I see it.
-
Unless it's someone's pet I think someone need's to drop that thing! I would report it to WDFW to see if a local person lost one and if hasn't been reported... then it'll be interesting table fare!
-
IF it is a fallow deer that escaped, it could be a very valuable animal. But if it's not tame I have no idea how they could get it back.
I personally would try to get the word out that there is a loose fallow deer (sheriff's department, animal control, etc) first. To me it would be like shooting an escaped cow... :dunno:. I've personally had cows/steers get out from time to time and it's a very scary thing (even when it's just a little down the road from our farm). If someone shot my cow I would be devastated!
-
Maybe that one fallow deer started the whole hoof rot epidemic :chuckle:
-
FWIW, they are delicious. We had Christmas in England about 20 years ago, my English aunt bought 1/2 a fallow buck for me to cook. Lighter than American deer, between venison and pork in color - very mild, great flavor, tender.
-
Let them go crazy and breed, then we can have a hunt-able population.
-
Just got texted a pic of one in the bed of a pickup. The way it was told to me the Game Warden said it was most likely some sort of hybrid. No issue shooting. Not my kill, can't post it.
-
Was it in the back of a blue Chevy pick up? A local guy shot it yesterday.
-
It was tame enough. The couple that saw it before I rolled up said it stood on the road and watched them watching him.... Still, in the middle of nowhere... Wish I would have pulled the trigger. :bash:
Wish that couple would have sent me the pictures they took.
-
Pics or it didn't happen. :dunno:

Did it look like the pic that I posted on the first page of this thread? My daughter took that pic about 8-10 miles as the crow flies from where the buck was shot. With the terrain, it could have easily gotten in Vail within a few days. Just curious if there is more than one roaming around these parts. If it was someone's pet, not sure that I would eat it. You have now way of knowing what kind of medicatons it might have running through it.
-
No, it did happen. I don't have permission to show so I won't show. Yes a farrow like deer was taken.

Could be, picture was after dark and the is a canopy on the truck.

Wow cool! Washington State calls them a "Deleterious exotic wildlife." So I think that means they're shootable.

I have a pic on FB of a dead Fallow as well. Not sure who shot it or what the story is....I am waiting for a reply from a family friend to find out more. Pretty little sucker.
-
Hope the Guy Didn't use his deer tag

Hope the Guy Didn't use his deer tag
The one I saw was tagged.

Off topic but years ago some dipstick shot a dudes mule and put his cow elk permit on it :chuckle: it happened out by mossy rock, the dude was so excited to roll into the game check, needless to say the game check station and the wardens had a good one with that fool!! :chuckle:
-
Any more word on this had a guy tell me dozens of times he has seen them behind his property in granite falls just thought he was talking crazy
-
I'm not into shooting people's pets, even when they are off their property.
-
If I see it this weekend, I'm shooting it!!!! It's probably spreading lice and hoof rot as we speak..... :yike:
-
When I talked to the state big game vet years ago, he told me it was alpacas that brought in the lice that's causing deer hair loss. Has that changed?
-

Already dead. Shot by a local. I have a pic of it in the road on my phone.

Had to be the same pic that was posted on fb....why did they delete it from fb?
-
Man I want to see the pic! I saw lots of fallow deer in New Zealand and wanted to hunt one but didn't have the cash. :chuckle:
Might as well just post "he's dead". :tung:
-
Call the game dept. the permits required to own them would be easy to track. I bet they will tell you to SHOOT! I am pretty sure the hair slip and lice issues have been traced to fallow deer.
-
They have not.
-
further reiterate, it's dead i've seen the photo. Some *censored* got super lucky.
