Title: Colt revolver
Post by: RGB on October 25, 2016, 07:35:36 PM
Any experienced gun trader know the real world value of a King Cobra? Had it since somewhere around 1990 or so. Original box and manual. Shot little, mostly with light plinking hand loads. Looking to get something I would use more. I've seen the prices on Gunbroker, but don't know if they are realistic.

Gunbroker and the like have some amazingly rare and awesome vintage iron!  That said, many and by many I mean most sellers are hoping for buyers that have come into serious cash etc., and want iron they've always desired.  Anything vintage Colt has the potential to bring some of those unreal #'s for sure.  As hoof rot stated Gunbroker is best for top money, but for here I'd mention what might strike your fancy i.e. AR/ sinister black rifles, higher end bolt guns, other hand cannons, 1911's etc. etc.  Wish I were a better Colonel Colt expert to help you further.

I have been watching the Colt Python, Anaconda, and King Cobra market with some interest, as I have two people with KCs that are interested in selling.
Gunbroker can be helpful and misleading.
There are sellers on there that list for their dream price(not auction) and other potential sellers go on there and see those numbers and automatically think theirs is worth that or that is the actual market for the gun.
Top money is for 98% condition with original box, paperwork.
If you're somewhere down the line from that, prices drop quickly.

That said, the Colt Fanboy Koolaid is very powerful and there will always be a market for The Prancing Pony.
FWIW, a huge number of Colt AR15s were purchased during the last frenzy when everybody was sure Obama was going to take their guns, and those purchasers are not going to get their prices for a long, long time.
Wheelguns are out of production and the market will remain pretty strong.
Colt 1911s produced in the 1990s and early 2000s are loose rattletraps and knowledgeable buyers won't touch them.

I have a blued king cobra and seems like prices are around 1500 ish. Stainless models are in the 2k range. At least from my research on gun broker etc.

I'm going to hold onto mine as it is in excellent condition and I have other weapons I'd prefer to sell in the meantime.
