Entiat unit 2006.
We were hunting in the Entiat area on opening morning. Pulled up to our morning hunt and parked about 1.5 hours before day light. My daughter and i walked out to this ridge and got settled before first light. my wife and son were heading the opposite direction to watch another canyon. As light started to come apon us i spotted a dark figure moving in the darkness before us. Watching it with my binos as it grazed its way up the hill in front us us. As soon as it was light enough to see it was a legal buck i told my daughter to shoot it, but she could not find it in the scope. I turned the power down on the scope and got her calm enough to take a shot. The deer was about 60 yards in front of us broadside. She shot and missed. The deer looked around and moved up the hill more, she shot again, and nothing, it kept feeding only 70 yards in front of us. My son and wife come around the corner, wave them down, my son crotches down and sneaks up to us while my squats down for a pee.
It took rashell a (what seamed like) few minutes to get settled for another shot, buck fever was through out her whole body. I pointed out the deer to my son who made his way back to my wife after she was done peeing. He showed her the deer and they watched as rashell took aim for a third time. She pulled the trigger and the deer just stood there again. Rashell said "tell mom to shoot it", so Tanya put her sight on it and stood there, we asked her what she was waiting for and she said "It's not broadside" :bash:(it was quartered away) I said "shoot the dam deer before it takes off and she said "not until its a good shot" :bash:. The deer finally turned just right (for her) and she shot.
It jumped and took of running up the hill. I thought she missed until it dropped and did the "Death Roll" on the top of the hill. When we got to the top of the hill where it went down it was no where to be found. We looked around for a few minutes and my son saw it laying in a bush about 30 yards from where it fell.
Here is the results. One shot through both lungs

Very nice! CONGRATS.
I love seeing and hearing about folk's "first harvest".

AWESOME deer and even better story! I had to laugh cause all my years of hunting around my mom....it seems like she always picks the best time to have to take a pee!!! ((((WOMAN))))
Congrats on the buck though....nice to have the whole family there!

Nice job to you all. Way to go getting the entire family involved. That buck looks to have a fat body on him and nice rack too.

was your daughters gun off?
NO, she she had buck fever so bad i watched the end of the barell move dramatically.
She was so upset that she missed that she started to "Cry" :'(, i felt bad for her. But the follwowing year she made up for it by dropping a big doe at 350 yards "DOWN the Canyon" (that is another story in it's self)..........
She still claims the deer belongs to her and tells my wife when she dies she is taking here deer back.
:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Very cool. Wish I could get my wife to hunt. Congrats on Rashell's 350 yard doe too. I'll bet that was a blast to get out of that canyon :chuckle:
I lucked out this year. My 9 year old didn't get buck fever 'til his was dead on the ground....

Congrats to your wife.
Mine wont hunt, which is fine. She says that is my thing.
I told the wife i wanted her to take Hunters Ed with Rashell, that way if she was to some day decide to hunt she would not have to worry about the class, it would be done with.
By the time the class was done she could not wait for hunting season to come around, and loves to hunt (not as much as i do).
