Title: Help picking between 2 savages!
Post by: syoungs on November 05, 2016, 05:56:27 PM
So I decided I want a new rifle before next year's hunting season, have been using my model 700 30-06 for 15 years now, and am ready to play with something new.

The new rifle's intended purpose is 2 fold, I want it for long distance antelope and deer hunting, and for longer range target work. I would like to be able to shoot out to 600 yds comfortably on deer/antelope size game if needed. (I'm not trying to go western extreme or whatever they are called, just want a solid long distance rifle, in case)

So the rifle I have chose is the savage 11 trophy predator, in 6.5 creedmoore. It comes topped with a Nikon bdc scope, but my plan was to replace it with a primary arms 4x14 ffp. The Nikon could go on another couple rifles I have kicking around.

I went to look at this rifle today at sportsman's, they didn't have it in stock, but they did have a savage 10 predator in stock, at first glance they seem pretty close to the same rifle, from what I could tell, the 10 comes with a accustom, and maybe a better magazine system.

There is about a 200$ difference between the 10 and 11, with the 10 not coming with a scope. Is the 10 worth the extra money? What differnces Are making up the price difference between them? Is it just the accustock?

I really really liked the look and feel of the 10. The river American predator was also on the list originally, but it felt much cheaper in hand, and the fit and finish was not up to par. ( I realize it's 1/2 the price, fine rifle in its price point)

So what do I go with? The 10 or the 11? I haven't seen the 11 yet, so maybe they have a lower quality feel or something real obvious I'm missing. I have up to 1000$ to spend on a rifle, not counting optics, so the price difference is fine if it's worth it.

I personally would get the 10. Nikon makes awesome scopes, but now you can get whatever scope you want and place it on.

Theres a couple differences, including the stock and a fluted barrel on the 10.

The stock on the trophy package is going to be similar to the stock on the other trophy hunter packages - that is, pretty flimsy. Go pick up one of the other 10 or 16 model trophy hunters to get an idea.

If it were me, I'd spend the extra $$.

Yeah I've decided to go ahead and spend the extra money on the 10 predator, the accustock felt much better, and the fact it actually has bottom metal and a decent mag is worth it.

The fluted barrel looks cool to

I have a Long Range Hunter in 300wsm w/a Leupold VX-6. I'm banging steel at 900 yards. If I would have had my turret built on a 200 yard zero instead of 100 it'd be capable of much more.
I know that wasn't one of your choices. Just my  :twocents: Gun has virtually no recoil.

Based on the title, I swore you were referring to the Presidential election!

the long range hunter is also on the radar for next summer, still a toss up between the 338 and the 300 though. Ill probably end up with the 338 im guessing.
