Title: Chiwawa late Rifle
Post by: GoldenOscar on November 09, 2016, 03:39:08 PM
Got my dad drawn for this tag he is 79 years old and I am hoping to be able to get pops a nice WA deer. He still gets around pretty good but the hills are getting steeper and the miles longer.  I will be heading over for a 3 day weekend this weekend and the last 4 days 16-20th if we need to................Looking at Tyee Ridge area, thats where I have scouted mostly but it's not looking like we are going to get the weather to push deer down....not sure?

If anybody has suggestions, they would be appreciated....but most important wish us luck!!!

I've seen some nice ones off Lake Wenatchee and Fish lake,
Not sure of the private land around there, but the deer live there.
If you have a boat and the right knowledge, it would be worth looking into.

Here is a report, I don't have a tag but live in the unit. Weather is warm and dry, snow line is up around 7,000 feet. Bucks have started breeding with receptive Does. Mostly 2 and 3 points so far. Saw a tag holder with a buck yesterday.

:yeah:  Spent last Saturday up there with the wife just camping, Covered some ground in the truck taking pictures, saw very few deer from what we normally see up there this time of year. 2 points were getting the job done on does.

It's a huge unit.....with the lack of snow / weather the deer are not moving.  If I had the tag, not to sure I wouldn't be on the west end of the unit up high.   ;)

Do exactly what Jrebel said.  Don't hunt the Entiat side in this weather.  You can shoot a deer, just not something you really want with a late tag.  Go north and or west and high.

They covered pretty much everything. Don't overlook maverick saddle/ surgarloaf area come the last few days.

Longer range weather forecast looks like it will cool off and may snow before the end, fingers crossed for all you tag holders!

Might be a tough year weatherwise but you've got good advice on this thread.  Look forward to a report

Carry 2 sets of chains if the snow hits.

I would be more scared of the mud then snow.

Lol the wife and I head over Thursday. Looks like a little weather hit the cascades last night, hoping it keeps up so she can tag a decent buck.

Well, Chiwawa did not happen this year for the late rifle! I had Antlerking with me, and he tried his best to find me a decent buck-They just were not there yet. I shot a meat 3 point at the end,and we saw a couple other little guys bite the dust. The best buck I heard of was a mature 25 inch heavy 2 point a couple of guys from Olalla got.Antlerking is the real deal,I can not thank him enough for his time and effort!
