I drew the palouse whitetail tag, thru my previous times going thru there I thought it would be a easy tag to fill.
Boy was I wrong. Due to most my time this year taking work off for a new baby my time for this tag is minimal.
I spent 2 days on a piece of property and I only saw 3 deer and not one was legal. With this weather still predicting to beer warm am I wasting my time driving over there this weekend? Is anyone seeing any rutting action yet? I know the mulies are but not seeing it in the whitetail.

Whitetail rut is still a couple weeks away if you ask me. If you're going back to the same property I might think twice. But it might not hurt to do a little door knocking. It's a little late for that I guess, but you never know.

I'm over here now and the rut isn't close. 56 degrees today at elevation. Crazy warm and all does still holding fawns. Zero shooter bucks and even immature deer scarce. Heading home tomorrow night and hope the possible snow on Thursday comes

Never going to get a buck with the beer warm, put that stuff on ice!

I just came back from there. Only hunted 2 days. Very little deer movement on Saturday, saw 2 does on a 450 acre piece of private ground with GREAT deer habitat. Moved to some state ground Sunday, saw a few more deer, all does again tough. As the weather moved in yesterday afternoon, the deer seemed to be up and moving about more.
Did find a few antler rubs in one particular area that were very fresh. They're starting to think about it anyway.

Warm weather hasn't been helping any. Not much moving anywhere. I did see a couple bucks cruising yesterday. It is starting to picks up. Cooler weather would help a lot.

My wife had the late palouse tag as well. We went out Saturday and saw two deer, one was a legal buck and the other the doe it was clinging too. The buck is now hanging in our garage. I have now spent several days in our typical hunting area and have seen a total of less than 10 deer. I think the main reason is the blue tongue from last year. Deer numbers are WAY down in certain areas. The warm weather and full moon would be the other culprits IMO. Deer, bucks especially, are still pretty nocturnal. Stick with it. It should keep getting better and better, especially if the temps drop. Good Luck!

I have sat in a stand for 6 of the last 8 days and have seen 1 deer! a 100" 4pt came into a scent wick and tarsal gland. I am lucky to get a deer on cam everyday! go 2 days sometimes. The rut in 101 every year is in full swing around Nov 15-18...the rut in 127 is always later Nov 17-25 and it drops off fast I have noticed usually by Nov 30 bucks are done chasing and start seeing them feeding in groups. Real movement should happen this week.
