Title: Late whitetail rut action
Post by: Falcon on November 13, 2016, 09:44:53 AM
Heading out Tuesday to the colville area for the last 4 days of late buck.
I know it's been warm.  Looks like there may be at least some snow mid week.
Anybody seeing any rut action kicking in?

Thanks
Bryan

The buck I shot yesterday was stinky and definitely in the rut. Neck was swelled up, and he had pine all over the bases and eye guards of his antlers. I saw many rubs and scrapes while hunting the last couple of days. I would have to guess it is the end of the pre-rut and heading into primetime! Good luck and hope you get a good one.😁👍

Things are most likely starting up and with the colder weather mid week, could get good

My young fella I shot in 111 was just starting to smell a bit but no neck swelling. He was following a doe and conveniently popped out right after she peed.

All young bucks starting in. Does aren't really ready and the big bucks are hanging back for the most part. Should start in good before the season ends. But like always its best in the twenties of November.

Saw a half dozen young bucks yesterday. They were all acting like idiots.

I have the blue mountain whitetail tag and took my 11 year old boy out this Friday and Saturday. We seen a lot of does but not many bucks until last night we spotted a 170" class buck following a doe... he was massive but I couldn't get a shot. I got in between him and the doe he was following and the doe began grunting; I thought for sure he would chase the doe and come right to me but he wasn't that stupid. I never did see him again. My boy told me he was really shaking after seeing that!

Just got back from the West edge of the 101... Mulies were beginning to rut. We stayed in an area that was all Mulies and we saw some mashers. Lots of scrapes and rubs. As far as the whitetail go... no rut action yet. Got in to them pretty good, just saw young bucks with does, the big bucks we saw were by themselves.

We too are also heading out to the Colville area. Wishing for a little snow but doesn't look like it will happen. Would be nice to bring something home!

The buck I shot yesterday morning was sniffing the ground at 550 yds away, he headed the same trail I saw a doe go who was feeding about 300 yds from me. I tried to close the distance and he was at the doe, I got a range on her before he chased her at 200 yds, I was sitting on my butt using shooting sticks when he stopped I shot and he turned right when I pulled the trigger. Clean miss, the doe ran right at me with him right on her tail I said "HAY" and he stopped looking at me, heck shot at 40 yds. Funny thing was the doe stayed right there while I looked for my brass, she even walked up to him and took a sniff. I'm getting bucks at all different times of the day right now on my game cameras.

I also have a blue mountains tag.  I have been seeing a lot of rutting action, but nothing close to 170.  Can you please give me directions to where you saw him?
